Re: mkharsh33 MLB 2K11 Sliders: Classic Hitting / Total Control Pitching

Mk could you help me figure out pitching in this game a little, i read how you said before that you can get more control over a pitch by not using max power just wondered if you could elaborate a little. Sliders are all subjective and some sets work better with different playing styles. What is perfect for me may not be perfect for you vice versa depending on how we play.

Currently the way i pitch and the way i assume most people do is to try to hit maximum pitch speed by filling up the circle all the way on every pitch. ive never been concerned with fatigue as pitch count seems to be more important. For the record im using 25 pitch control as i feel thats the only way to throw user walks which is something important to me.

I use blazzens hitting sliders with your pitching field and running. I prefer the hit stick. Blazzens thread he explains how he uses it.. What counts to use contact power or defensive swing and i find if you follow those guidlines you get good hit variety while still having options depending on the situation. Not trying to debate classic vs hit stick they are both equal imo. Just thought him explaining his playing style helped a lot and was wondering if you could do the same for pitching. For an 0-0 count do you go for max power or lower power How about 3-2 You said something about inside and outside the circle what do you mean by that

I put the pitch analyzer on for a few games to get a feel for things and going past max but before overthrown gives you 75 percent power. below max you can get 50 and up. I was thinking IRL a pitcher can choose exactly the power they want maybe the pitch meter should be lower to allow that but of course other sliders would need adjusted. or maybe increase pitcher fatigue slider in game options to make using less power every pitch more important. Too bad there isnt a seperate slider for user and cpu with that.

I feel like pitching is still off with all the sliders ive used but can be fixed. ideally id like to see 2 or 3 user walks when using an 80 to 85 rated pitcher, roughly one hit per inning, and for the k's to match thier real life k/9 stats. blazzen listed the mlb averages id like to get close to those for a 5 or 10 game span. i know this all depends on the pitcher chosen and the team he is facing. all sliders ive tried its either too easy to k the cpu or its a hit fest. Rather the game be too hard than too easy but not unrealistic. i think im pitching wrong. Sorry for the long post i really like this game any thoughts Thank you for your contributions on here

No guidelines to these, just play baseball...

You can max out the pitching meter but note that the ball will also move in different directions. These sliders will require you to do some practice and figure out what each unique pitch does...whether at maxed value, under the full circle, or maxed out beyond the circle. You simply have to take the time and work this out for yourself. These sliders capture the reality of baseball in ways that I don't think the other sliders here have. Now, before anyone takes offense to that or thinks I'm arrogant, I'm not. But I've tried every set here, and with all of them two vital ingredients were missing:

      1) The ability to control your pitcher TOO WELL. I shouldn't be able to pitch with my 5th starter and get 3 hit shutouts on a regular basis. I recognize I've played this game for years, so I have the muscle-memory thing down pat. However, pitching should be a challenge and even the best pitchers miss their spots occasionally. I wanted to capture that...

      2) The ability to FEAR POWER HITTERS. Many of the other sliders sets I used lacked my FEAR in the big bats. I should be scared to death to pitch to say, Bautista (TOR)... Other sliders kinda dummy this down a touch, and IMO CPU batting power MUST be at 80 to capture this. Many are running with 75. For me, I don't fear the guys I should. I will often pitch around guys that scare me, hence the walks (I've walked as many as 6 batters in one game...quite realistic).

Hope these explanations help you. It may be possible that these just aren't for you...

Yes. This set brings the fear of the big bats out like no other. I actually wince and draw breath when I see "bad gesture" after a breaking pitch to a power hitter because I know there's a good chance it's getting smacked. Every single at bat with a good hitter is a chess match.

Ya but I have my opponent power at 75 and it still sucks when I throw a 12/6 in the dirt and the
Y hit a home run, I mean how is that realistic?

New updates on page 1 - post 1 - Monday, July 11 at 3:55 am.

Please note that I am NOT using BlackBetty15's latest findings regarding IF/OF speed and OF throw speed. These sliders have heightened the difficulty of the cpu batting and his figures won't work with those numbers that high. But, IMO those cpu numbers need to be that high for the cpu top bats to put a sense of fear in the game. After playing 3 games using his suggestions I gave up 17, 12 and 14 hits - extra base hits were just too high, so I appreciate the thoughts but I'll politely pass.

Make sure you have the latest sliders plugged into yours!

I use 25, but that's just me. I found at 30 I could put the ball anywhere I wanted it, ala Greg Maddux.

After playing The Show for several years now, I wanted something else.
And with 2k11 being region free on the 360 this year I decided to order it (I have a PAL 360), and it arrived today.

I wanted a challenge right from the start so I went with your sliders (with AI Batting Power at 75 and User Pitcher Control at 35).

I'm having a blast. This game is so much fun.
The commentary is miles ahead of The Show. It sounds so natural.

I just lost to the Royals with the Twins 3-2 (MLB Today), and the game played great.
I had the bases loaded in the 9th with 1 out and Mauer at the plate. I hit a fly ball to CF and I wanted to send the runner from third home. But I pressed RT and nothing happened. Then I pressed LT and the runner took off. It was a close play at the plate but he was out. That was unfortunate, but I'm still learning the controls.

Thanks for this set, I will definitely continue to use it!

Little pertrubed.. just had back to back games against the Giants where they had 14 hits in each game...

yet they were all singles, and they only scored 1 run in each game.

I have pitching accuracy at 40 because to be honest I mess up the pitching moves enough that I throw inaccurately often. (I cant seem to even throw a fastball straight sometimes, even if I FEEL like Im pushing up on the stick im usually pushing up but slightly to the left).

Should I really go lower? I feel like sometimes my messed up pitches fall right into the strike zone, allowing the AI to get easy singles.

The thing is both these games were against the Giants - they really dont have any power hitters at all in their lineup, so I feel this is kind of realistic.

I'm still experimenting a bit tho and moved the AI contact to 45 to see if I could turn down the hit total a bit.. but again.. is this just because I played the Giants?

Today I just had the biggest surprise of my MLB 2K11 career. It literally made me jump out of my seat.

Corey Patterson (TOR) (Cold Streak: Con. 62 Pow. 54) Hit a two out, 3 run homer in the top of the 10th inning for me in a 0-0 game. Really was never expecting to hit a homer with him, but on a 2-0 count, I got a middle-in pitch and he drove it over the fence. So once again I say this: I love these sliders!!!

Btw, for those asking. I use Pitch Control at 25. I feel that this is the best way to do it.

I have not made any changes to these...still getting amazing games. played today's mets (cpu) at phillies (me) matchup. I lost 6-5.

I trailed 3-0 after Beltran hit a 3-run homer in the 3rd. I came back with a solo homer by Utley off of Dickey (crushed a knuckleball to the 2nd deck in RF). I actually tied it at 3 in the 4th on a Vance Worley rbi single (he was 2-2 with 1 rbi - pitcher helping his own cause!).

I took a 4-3 lead into the 8th but my late inning bullpen guys blew it. I gave up 3 runs in the bottom of the 8th to trail 6-4. I scored run in the bottom of the 9th to only trail 6-5 and had the bases loaded. But Domonic Brown hit a rocket that was caught by the SS to end it.

Hey mkharsh, quick question involving these sliders.

Are they good to be used in My Player mode? Because I'm thinking about starting one.

Not sure...haven't played that mode. Wish I could help, but I've been so busy doing rosters I haven't even started my fantasy dynasty yet...

105 games into my franchise and I hit a homerun with Johan Santana ha ha ha ha. Turned on an Aroldis Chapman 104mph fastball

btw I use 60 power and 50 CPU success........everyone in the league resets to no hot or cold streaks after the break if you play every game so 60 power is good for a team like the Mets who have just 1 power hitter above 80
