Re: mkharsh33 MLB 2K11 Sliders: Classic Hitting / Total Control Pitching

played 3 games last night with some tweaks...

    a couple quick thoughts:

    - i cannot lower cpu pitch success below 65. I think this is the magic number.

    - i tried the cpu 45 batting contact / 80 batting power. don't like it. i feel the cpu now lacks that threat. i tinkered with 85 batting power and i think i *might* like that setting.

    - i did lower the cpu OF run speed (as noted a couple/three posts above) - I really like it at 40!

DetroitStyle: my guess is if you play like me, the more games you play (especially for testing purposes) the less patient you become at the plate. I wouldn't put much stock into any of your latter games because I found myself getting antsy by my 3rd game in a row, swinging at bad balls.

I have not touched the settings on page 1 - post 1 yet. But still trying to figure out those cpu batting sliders. But give the 45 / 85 setup a couple games and see what you think...

I'll try it out. I haven't had the chance yet, I've been testing the injury slider in franchise (made a post in the main area). I'll see if I can get a few games in today.

eh, bumped up power to 85 and the cpu hit 3 doubles and 2 triples...and this was only up to the 4th inning.

See, the thing with power is that it doesn't need to be raised to compensate for a lower contact rating. When contact is made, the ball will still be hit hard as per the rating it just means the CPU may strike out once or twice more a game or ground/fly out a bit more. It just really affects the frequency of solid contact hits. Raising power just means it will go even further and hit harder when solid contact is made.

If you felt the cpu is lacking a threat, it's probably because they aren't making solid contact often enough for you. In that case raise contact back up to 50.

Does that make any sense at all to you?

Which is why I arrived at that conclusion well over 3 months ago...

I only lowered to 45 based upon your advice. I'm going to stay with the 50 / 80 cpu combo. Thanks!

yea, you have to tweak to account for user skill. Your probably much better at pitching with control at 25 than I am, which is why I needed to lower contact to 45. I'll keep playing around though and tweak to my skill.

I'm just convinced though that adjusting sliders for a baseball game is the hardest thing in the world. Anything can happen, anything. You put up 15 runs on 20 hits and go "oh, I should lower contact" but then IRL you see a team do that.

In basketball, for example, you know what to expect. Ben Wallace isn't going to average 30 points a game. But in baseball, Jose Bautista can hit 55 homers out of nowhere. It aint the sliders, it's baseball

Detroit, used your sliders and got these results if it helps you out at all. Really enjoyed my games. Only blow out was the last game. The 2nd game, 5 runs were scored in the 8th against me.

Looks good. It seems like your getting not enough doubles from the CPU though. Averages look good, same with strikeouts and walks. Hits are about sport on. Runs are a little low for the cpu though.

Might want to stick with the page on sliders with 50 con/80 pow. Might get you more doubles and a few more runs from the cpu.

lowered user pitching composure affect - 25 was just too much. would get into one of those bad innings and just get pummeled.

good idea. I've had mine at 5 for awhile now, just like the cpu...kinda makes the effect even for both sides.

actually, i made a new update that I think will FINALLY nail it...

                        user pitching composure: 10
                        user pitch control: 30

I kept getting those really bad innings where things would spiral out of control and you could NEVER hit anything in the strike zone. I'm all for a challenge, but it wasn't any fun. I think this will solve it!

I think the power may need to go back down. I like the cpu throwing more balls - but that combined with the boost to power has made offense a little to easy for me. In 10 games before the change, I averaged about 3.3 runs a game. In 4 since, I average 7. My team is hitting .371 in those 4 games. I have 4 hr. Jason Heyward by him self is 7/17 with 3 hr and 10 rbi in 4 games. And he's hitting 6th. I think it's just a matter of with the cpu pitch control being lower, I'm getting in a lot of good hitter counts, and the power swing takes over, and with the upped power, I'm crushing the ball.

Funny thing, I still have a lot of trouble with high contact/low power guys. I struggle really bad with both Martin Prado and Michael Bourn. I'm not sure what it is. Especially Prado. His power isn't too much lower than, say, Chipper Jones, but I do much better with Chipper.

Funny you write this...I wonder about this now too. I played a game the other night with Atlanta (an actual matchup at Chicago Cubs). I hit 5 hr's and 5 doubles.

So I guess we have 2 options:

                            - lower user batting power
                            or
                            - raise cpu pitch effectiveness

It's strange because it's like they need a middle slider between the 5's. for example, the user batting power needs a 52.5 option - the middle ground between 50 and 55. At 50 they hit quite a number of weak ground outs, but at 55 suddenly you crush the ball.

I don't know...as much as I like this game, there's just some slider issues that can't get fixed. I guess we should try 5 games with the cpu pitch effectiveness raised and then try 5 with the user batting power lowered and see what happens...

mk, @ some point your gonna have create a base-set & leave well enough alone. There are so many varying factors on why the game is playing the way it does. Your gonna end-up going crazy.

I haven't touch my slider set in almost 2 months. Games have been pretty consistent: Close fun games/ High Scoring affairs/ Take 1 for the team games.
