Updated sliders and rosters sounds fun. I may give them a whirl. Haven't played this game in a while.

Thanks to the both of you!

I'm going to get back into this game, probably play 1 game each series.

it's weird... with the cpu batting power at 85 I feel like I get rocked at certain moments of the game where it's like an avalanche of hits. BUT, when I put it at 80, it's like they have a power outage against me. I'm kinda stuck on this one regarding what to do... (Wish I could just enjoy these stupid games for what they are).

            Final sliders - pretty sure:

3 updates to the last set (if you're still playing along) - page 1 - post 1 reflects the new update:

            AI CPU Batting Power: 85
            User Outfield Run Speed: 5
            User Infield Run Speed: 5

These three updates have really made this game fun. Will now start my fantasy draft Association within the next few days (once I finalize my NCAA Football 13 sliders - which may take forever. LOL!).

Don't be afraid to walk guys. Make sure to slow the pace of the game down by using your manager to visit the mound. Think like a pitcher and this game really gets fun.

            Thanks!

Re: mkharsh33 MLB 2K12 Sliders: Classic Hitting / Total Control Pitching

I actually took the trade deadline rosters and simmed a season to next year. The cards repeated, won the WS over the yanks.

Chipper, Hinske, Diaz and a few others retired for the Braves.

I signed Michael Bourne to a 5 year deal, $8m per year.

JD Martinez for the Astros must've had a hell of a year because he was an 85 OVR, 5 star potential player. 85/79 vs lefties and 75/68 vs. righties. I needed a lefty killer because the Braves lineup is pretty weak vs. lefties so I planned to get him. Plus, I figured it was pretty realistic because the Astros always trade away their good players! I gave them more than enough for him I think - giving up both Pastornicky and Delgado. JD is only 25 and under team control for another couple years at a cheap price. Pastornicky was being blocked by Andrelton Simmons at shortstop and Delgado was behind by Teheran and Gilmartin as far as getting bumped up to the big leagues. Trade worked for both sides I think. I moved Prado back to 3B to take over for the retired Chipper Jones and put JD Martinez in left.

              Lineup:
              CF Bourn 88 OVR
              3B Prado 83 OVR
              C McCann 87 OVR (80/87 vs. righties!)
              2B Uggla 83 OVR (65/90)
              1B Freeman 85 OVR (82/78)
              LF Martinez 85 OVR
              RF Heyward 86 OVR
              SS Simmons 78 OVR

              Bench:
              OF Reed Johnson
              C David Ross
              INF Josh Wilson
              OF Jose Constanza
              1B/3B Juan Francisco

              Pitching Rotation is:
              Hanson 92 OVR
              Beachy 91 OVR
              Hudson 84 OVR
              Minor 83 OVR
              Jurrjens 82 OVR

              Bullpen:
              C Kimbrel 91 OVR
              SU Venters 85 OVR
              SU Medlen 81 OVR
              MR O'Flahrety 80 OVR
              MR Martinez 79 OVR
              MR Durbin 73 OVR
              LR Malholm 73 OVR

Team is rated 98 OVR, with 99 PITCHING and 92 BATTING.

I played a lot over the weekend since my wife was out of town. Got 10 games in on the first set of sliders (V4 on the spreadsheet). Tweaking user contact down one more notch for the next set but I think I'm right where I should be on these.

              https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/...1M3FJcGc#gid=5

USER AVG CPU AVG 2011 NL AVG

              2b 2.00 1.11 1.7

              SO 6.30 7.78 7.29
              E 0.50 0.44 0.62

I still find it key to take pitches until I see strike one. I don't ALWAYS do it if the pitcher I'm facing starts grooving them for strike one, but as a general rule I try to do it so I walk enough and run the opposing pitchers pitch count up.

I know what you mean about 80 power. First 10 games the CPU averaged over 4 runs per game, 1 HR per game, etc.

Next 4 games I played I adjusted user contact and inf throw speeds, didnt touch CPU batting or USER pitching and the offenses get shut out. I think I ran into some teams on a cold streak, that always throws things off a bit.

                See version 5: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/...1M3FJcGc#gid=7

                USER AVG CPU AVG

                E 0.00 0.50

One thing I did notice is with infield throw speed at 45 I've seen MORE groundball double plays get beat out. It's like they run harder through the base with the throw speed at 45. At 40 guys with strong arms like Andrelton Simmons looked like they were throwing lollipops to first base. There were also some slower runners scoring from first on doubles because of poor relay throws to the plate. I think 45 infield throw speed is perfect. Fast runners still beat out bunts and hits in the hole deep at shortstop. I recommend giving it a shot.

Considering my Braves team has 99 OVR rated pitching I should be on the lower side of runs given up so I'm going to roll with 80 power for a while longer - at least until I get 10 games in on this set. I think 10 games is the sweet spot for evaluating sliders. Over the first 10 games, giving up over 4 runs per game and 1 HR per game was actually kind of a lot considering the pitching I have. Only other 99 rated pitching staff is the phillies with Halladay Lee and Hamels. Their bullpen isn't nearly as good though. If anything I'll lower user pitch control a notch which will make me leave more pitches out over the plate as well as maybe walk a few more guys.

Can anyone be kind enough to help me figure out why i can not control my total control pitching. I never dealt with it because I've always just switched to classic, but online I use the total control of course, and for 1, I have only gotten max power/effectiveness ONCE in like 6 games. I get a bad gesture way too much, i cant hit my mark at all, I can hit max every single time on classic but never online on total control, It's made the game not fun at all, have no idea what I'm doing wrong, I time it the same way trying to slightley underthrow as opposed to over throw, doesnt matter

I rarely hit a perfect mark... Why would you want do that each time? These sliders are meant for the sim-gamer who realizes that most pitchers don't have Randy-Johnson-esque skills. Greg Maddux aside, most pitchers don't have that kind of command. You can still strike guys out, but if you ever want to walk a batter, or MUST pitch around a power bat, these sliders are for you. If not, just find another set which raises the human pitch command and allows you to (boringly) hit your spots all the time. Sorry, but pitching is still too easy in this game so you've got to create some slider adjustments to make it harder, and more realistic.

Officially settled on these latest slider updates (page 1 - post 1 updated) - getting some REALLY fun games with this set now (the issue was lowering the high number of double and triples without lowering the homerun power...think I finally nailed it!):

Yeah exactly. I get scared when I fall behind in counts, and often unintentionally intentionally walk big bats in such scenarios.

I love the sliders and the updates man! Wouldn't be playing at all without you and the other PC modders!

I believe ai squeeze is way too low and base runner aggression is too high.how often are you seeing CPU trying to bunt for a base hit? As far as aggression cpu is constantly getting thrown out trying to go second to third on a ball hit in front of them. I use 65 squeeze and 70 aggression and only skilled bunters try the drag bunt on me.

Re: mkharsh33 MLB 2K12 Sliders: Classic Hitting / Total Control Pitching

                            I made 4 changes:

                            - Active Bullpen is now OFF. I hate to do this, but the cpu will let a pitcher simply die on the mound before they make a switch. This should help with the cpu managing of their bullpen.

                            - User batting power is lowered to 55. At 60, was just seeing too many HR's. I think I've gotten better since getting back into this game.

                            - cpu running - hit and run is lowered to 55. The problem is not steal aggression, but when I did the replays (3 players by the cpu were gunned down by me - not even close) I saw it was not an attempted steal (as they were getting no lead) but rather hit-and-runs that were missed by the cpu batters.

                            - cpu running aggression lowered to 70. I agree with Integ's suggestion above. Lowering this has made smarter baserunners.

Let me also answer Integ's comments above: I do see the cpu try to bunt for base hits, so those are good. I would NOT suggest raising the cpu squeeze bunts - reason: you will see POWER bats start trying bunts with guys on 3rd base. You do NOT want this to happen. Also, how often do we really see a suicide squeeze play in real MLB games? Not often, hardly ever. The bunt numbers will be left alone. Thanks!

                              Thanks for the update man!

And mkharsh, I was recently experimenting with pitch speed @70 because I wanted a bit more hit variety... but I remember you had tried that earlier but that slider experiment failed... what was the reason - not K'ing enough? Its just that at speed 80 it is SUPER frustrating to see hits that really should have fallen in front of outfielders carry for an easy catch. I have a bit of time atm, so just wondering of your opinion on this...

I also tried messing with cpu pitching... and I seem to strike out WAAY more with CPU pitch control at 0 and strike zone tendency ~50-60. Feels like I always swing JUST over the ball.

Okay... MASSIVE updates across the board. Using my latest roster file, which totally changes the way this game plays, I've made a TON of tweaks to my sliders. You'll need to review them carefully as there are batting sliders (user and cpu), cpu pitching changes, and cpu running game updates (bunts/steals). I've really changed the way the game is played with the latest roster update I worked on. I was very excited to see that the franchise that I simulated had the White Sox defeating Washington 4-2 in the World Series (using that roster). It was cool to see Pittsburgh get into the playoffs (a 6 game battle with San Francisco) and the Oakland A's got in (but got swept). I hope you guys will enjoy this latest update - tough but fair!

NOTE: Begin inputting your sliders from ALL-STAR difficulty. Not sure what difference it makes, but last year we noted this did have some influence on the game. Used last year's set as a base, but with MANY important changes.
