I would say they are the early favorites to win the NL East or the Wild Card. Definetly a playoff team.

This division belongs to the Braves. Always have, always will. Even when you think the Braves are done, they win the division every year.

As for the Mets, their starting pitching doesn't scare me one bit. Everyone's old as dirt.

Was hoping the Braves would come in and make him a serious offer as it seemed like he was pining for them to get involved...oh well, they wouldn't have gone that far contract wise anyways so it's a non issue. Hopefully we just get Furcal resigned and bring in Hoffman.

You're obviously a very young man.
The Braves were the most BRUTAL team in the N.L.(maybe even the majors!) for MANY, MANY years. So your always have been is (granted a long time) since the 90's.
It won't go on forever though and someone else will reign in the East.
Hopefully it's the Mets!

It's really amazing.

In a few years when they are paying the backend of these incredible contracts and have traded away most of their useful prospects, Mets fans will have no one else to blame but Mr. Minaya.

I wouldn't consider Yusmiero Petit or Mike Jacobs trading away most of their useful prospects. They still have Humber, Pelfrey and most of all Milledge. How can people knock getting the best closer in the NL and a guy who finished 5th in the MVP race and would have finished higher if other Marlins (hmm Beckett and Mike Lowell to name a few) stepped up.

I think he's a Phillies fan but that's true. Losing Leo will be huge for the Braves. You still got to give the edge to them until we knock them off because Programmed2kill could be a starter on their team and he'd win 20 and have a 2.5 ERA.

Yeah, I know the Braves were really bad but since '91, the Braves have OWNED. The last team other than the Braves to win the N.L. East was the Phillies in '93. And since then, the Mets have been projected to win it and the Phils were projected to win it the past two years. No matter what, the Braves win the division. It sucks

I read in El Nuevo Dia that the Mets are also interested in Jose Valentin to replace Marlon Anderson. I hope Bengie Molina signs soon too. You can hate the Mets all you want but they got their man. Omar said a bat and a closer were his top priorites and he got both before the end of November. Now at the winter meetings he can worry about 2B and a lefty for the pen. And he still wants Manny. Don't put anything past Omar.

I don't want them damn Braves to win. I'm tired of them. But whenever we doubt them, they win the division. So we'll see if Mazzone's loss will hurt them, but until proven otherwise, I pick the Braves.

That pretty much sums it up. The two constants in the NL East are that the Braves will win it, and that the Mets will still find a way to tank despite whatever great players they're able to acquire via free agency. It's just how the world works and it's not up to us to question it.
