Originally posted by SkerikThat pretty much sums it up. Re: Wagner to the Mets!!!!!!!
I agree with you about the Braves. But losing Leo will hurt their pitching this year. I think right now the Mets, with the moves they've made to this point, have to be the favorites. Last year I thought the Marlins would overtake them but the Braves found a way. You gotta put the Mets behind St. Louis right now as the best in the NL. And if Omar is able to move some contracts and bring in Manny. Forget it. Next year Glavine, Matsui, Floyd and Trachsel come off the books. Thats more money than what came off this year. The Mets can afford Manny's contract. We can replace those guys with like Seo, Bannister, Hernandez and Diaz. I won't be disappointed if we don't get Manny, cause we're still in great shape, but if we do, It's over.
P.S. You can tell these Philly fans are pissed that we took their closer!

Re: Wagner to the Mets!!!!!!!
I dont want Manny and now with a closer and Delgado we dont need him. Keep Millege because after next year Floyd will be done and you can move him into his spot. Now all we need is a catcher. I hope we sign Hernandez soon to fill that spot.Comment

I hear we're going hard after Tom Gordon now. I like him as a setup guy, but I sure don't want him closing....Helen: Everyone's special, Dash.

Yeah...just a tad, huh?Comment

So I dont know, maybe thats what they were saying in Mizzou not out in the big city. Compare the Mets lineup as of NOW to anybody's in the NL. Who's better? San Diego? Houston? San Fran? PHILLY?
How about the Cardinals?Comment

Re: Wagner to the Mets!!!!!!!
Originally posted by SkerikActually, no. I stated above that I didn't want him at that price or for those years. Given the state that the Phillies' payroll is in, it didn't make sense for us to spend 10% of our money on a guy who's going to pitch about 80 innings a season at most when we're already on the hook for half of Thome's contract, Abreu's big contract, Burrell, Bell, Lieberthal ($7.5M ugh), etc. Plus, giving an expensive 4-year deal to a 34-year-old who's missed 2 out of the previous 6 seasons with arm troubles isn't exactly a great idea, imo.

Re: Wagner to the Mets!!!!!!!
When I look at this deal, compared to the BJ Ryan deal, I think this is horrible, locking down a 35-year-old guy. I don't necessarily like either deals, but the Ryan deal is a hell of a lot better compared to the Wagner deal. At least BJ's still got the age.Comment
