When they spent money they got to the World Series. Before last year, they refused A-Rod and Vlad in a 4 year span.

refusing someone and not willing to pay someone are two seperate things.

hmmm... yes the Braves are still the team to beat.. 14 division titles is nothing to sneeze at.. but Minaya is still putting the team together.. last season, finishing above .500 was nice, considering the past several years in purgatory.. but i also question the Braves.. the reason I say this is because it doesnt seem that there is great disappointment in the fact that with the 14 titles, they only have one WS title.. & you can thank the Blue Jays for overpricing the market with the deal BJ Ryan got..
--plus its easy to pick on the Mets right now, but not only must they compete against the NL East, they also have to compete against the Yankees (in terms of fan base, media, etc)as well

Exactly, nobody else has to compete for fans and backpages with the most succesful franchise in sports history. In New York, you gotta go big. Spend more than anyone else, cause quite frankly we can. And when you got the Yankees across the Triboro, it puts unbelievable pressure on the Mets to win. Its not like Chicago or LA or SF/OAK. I believe we can take the City back from the Yankees, but it's gonna take hard work and a whole lotta cash.

Damm Omar is spending money like crazy.

I checked Wagner's comps at a similar age and it produced a mixed bag of results going foward:

Mariano Rivera
Trevor Hoffman
Troy Percival
Randy Myers
Jeff Montgomery
John Franco
John Wetteland
Tom Henke
Rod Beck
Dan Quisenberry

Wagner is one of the best closers in all of baseball. I think he will be extremely productive the next 2 seasons but I'm not sure about the 3rd and 4the year. Of course this doesn't matter if the Mets win the WS next year.

The starting pitching is decent and the team is loaded with bats. As long as they don't get hit with injuries, I feel like this team will compete for a playoff spot. I'll be cheering for the Mets to make the playoffs next season because Delgado's never been there before.

Just imagine if the Mets had Kazmir next season........

Tim Hudson is a question mark? LMAO oh ok, if you say so. BOTH teams have question marks in the rotation but the Mets have more, the Braves are pretty set at the top with Smoltz, Huddy, Sosa, and Thomson (if he's not traded)...after Pedro and maybe Benson, there are a lot of questions about that Mets staff. To say they're a better overall staff than the Braves is a friggin' joke, if it was that way...they would've won the division esp. with our injuries to Hampton, Thomson AND Hudson. It'll be a different story if they go out and acquire a Vasquez or even a Zito but I guarantee you that JS is on the look out for another quality starter and it wouldn't shock me to see him deal for someone like he did for Hudson last year. Pitching wise, their only question mark is in the bullpen but I think that can be solved if they sign Trevor Hoffman and bring back Farnsworth. Schuerholz always finds a way, I'm not worried in the least.

What was Tim Hudsons record last year? Did he even win 15 games ? No He was 14 and 9. good not great. If the Met's had a decent closer last year they could have made the playoffs. Vasquez has great stuff but could not pitch on a big stage in NYC ( ask the Yanks). Jay Seao had a great year. Glavine had a great second half. Check quality starts. The problem with the Braves is no one goes to there games. Look at the playoffs there are always empty seats.
They are also not able to spend big money. Don't get me wrong the Braves have been the class of he NL East. However that time is over. The mets have much better hitting then the Braves as of today. Chipper is great but not getting younger and that really only leaves A. Jones. Lets see him hit even close to 50 Hr's again. We have David Wright who is a fantastic hitter and still very young. I won't go over player per player. Lets just say Vegas oddsmakers are not picking the Braves this year. I love all the Braves fans.
You guys love your team but know one goes to see them. The Mets can spend because they nowhav there on TV network and will break ground on a new stadium this year. People say they overpaid for Wagner or Delgado yet if hey don't spend money they are labeled cheap. I do not want to end this conversation on a bad note. As I said the Braves are the class of the NL East
but the there time is over. All this is just talk. Lets see what both teams due this year and then talk in October. Good Luck!
