I think they mean stealing signs in regards of having someone illegally looking at the pitches being called, as has been alleged with Bobby Thompson's Shot Heard 'Round the World, as opposed to deciphering bunt, steal, etc signals from a third base coach or reading signs using a runner on second.

Originally posted by camulosThat is quite possibly one of the dumbest and most despicable statements I've ever seen on OS. You're glad that Bonds took all these drugs, which have very serious health implications just so he could hit a few homeruns? You're glad that players like him force younger players to take drugs just so they can have a shot at reaching the next level? You're glad that he achieved the level he's at by cheating?
You Bonds apologists really need to just stop. You're wrong. There's no argument here and no way to justify what Bonds and others did by taking steroids and god knows what else. You're just flat out wrong.
All I am saying is back in the day players took speed and other drugs to keep them going. Roids are cheating know doubt, but others did heavy drugs too.
I guess I feel this way if taking roids is something you want to do, then go ahead and do it. I had a lot of friends take roids in HS and College to keep up. And now they are paying for it. But at the time it was a good way to stay ahead of the game! And I am not a Bonds supporter. I ever had much respect for him, because he is a jerk. I am just making a point about Baseball had to know about roids going on and didn't do a damn thing about it!Comment

Originally posted by AlliballDo you mean having someone in the stands relaying signals to the hitter or do you mean having a runner on second reaying the signs?
In terms of cheating I was referring to having someon off the playing field, for example perhaps a pitcher in the bullpen using binoculars or something"Darth Vader doesn't cry, Peter."

All I am saying is players have been cheating since the beginning of baseball. It is just how it is. Just because roids are the big topic today, we think that it is worst than any other thing done in the past. maybe it is, I just don't know! That is why I like reading your guys post, it helps me decide. So call me what you want, but I do thank you!Comment

Man with binoculars are bad, scuffing the ball is bad, but none of that really compares to taking a syringe up the *** so that you can hit a ball 15% further than before and run 10% faster.UMass-Lowell River Hawks

Originally posted by ScottdWow, never heard that, I seen players doing that on second base. So the catcher and pitcher would have a lot of huddles to solve that! Or they would hit the batter. or wait until the batter that was on second base was up to bat and hit him!Comment

Re: More Barry Bonds steroids stuff on ESPN radio right now
Originally posted by AlliballDude, runners on second trying to steal signs is not cheating no matter how you slice it. Even sneaking a peak at the catcher when you're a batter is not cheating. However, doing the latter will probably result in a fastball being put in your ear.Comment

Originally posted by AlliballNo it's not a code of ethics, because teams do it all the time. Peaking at the the catcher however is frowned upon.

Say what you want but it is still wrong and teams don't like when it is done. Scuffing the ball, spitting on the ball, taking roids they are all cheating, but for the sake of an argument OK roids are the worst cheating you can do!Comment
