Wow. Sorry no way I would trade Andruw right now. I know we get back a future closer, a good starting prospect and a decent OFer who can lead off, but Andruw is the Braves.

And the Braves are sub .500 team who aren't going to the playoffs. Not that Boston would ever make that deal, but the Braves would be insane not to.

Thank God, if that's true, Theo said no. My God that would be horrible.

I'll take Crisp/Ellsbury and two pitchers with potential to be very good over an OF who would improve defense and offense, yes, but would cost a crap load of money to resign since he's a FA after this season.

Good job rejecting that one.

ESPN.com Message boards has a rumor swirling around that a radio station, EEI, (not sure if they just missed the W for WEEI) reported that the Braves offered Andruw Jones to the BoSox for Coco Crisp, Jon Lester, and Craig Hansen. It was immediately rejected.

Why did Boston turn down this deal? Your talking about getting one of the best(if not the best) center fielders in the game today. And you get a 3rd dangerous hitter to bat behind the two monsters in Ortiz and Rameriez.

Someone fill me in. Are Lester and Hansen that good?

Why did Boston turn down this deal? Your talking about getting one of the best(if not the best) center fielders in the game today. And you get a 3rd dangerous hitter to bat behind the two monsters in Ortiz and Rameriez.

Potentially, yes.

But that would also mean turning into the Yankees, giving away your future for a guy you'd have to resign for quite a bit of money, when you have a good CF prospect blazing through the minor leagues. Especially when Lester is one of your starters and you need pitching more than offense.

I'm pretty sure the Braves, by offering that deal, were banking on the thoght that the Red Sox would make some rash deal to counter the Abreu trade.

And about Hansen...he's projected to be just as good/maybe better than Papelbon, but that's just potential, so take it for what it's worth.

Hansen, who knows. He's shown flashes but nothing consistent. You have to remember that he was just drafted last year though.

Lester on the other hand is a critical member of the Red Sox rotation right now. He's 5-1 with a 3.49 ERA in 10 games so far in Boston. With the rotation missing Wells, Wakefield and Clement, you can't trade Lester unless you're getting pitching in return. Even then, I would only deal him in a Beckett like deal where they're getting young pitching in return.

Altogether, you're giving up 3 good, young, inexpensive players who you have under your control for several more years to get a 2 month rental.

According to Richard Justice on his SportsJustice blog:
"I'm told Drayton McLane ordered Purpura to trade Brad Lidge. I got this information from an official with another team. I would expect the Astros to deny it."

Also, I'm told Justice was recently on 610 AM in Houston. He mentioned that if the Astros trade Lidge for Hank Blalock straight up, the subsequent move would be to swap Morgan Ensberg and Adam Everett for Scott Linebrink and Khalil Greene.

How so? Crisp is an below average defender. Sure he has made somoe nice grabs this year but he is an below average defender with a terrible throwing arm. His offense would be needed but it has been obsolete this year which is a problem. Lester has been fantastic this year and he would be the one to covet coming from the Sox in my opinion. As much as I like Hansen you don't know what your getting but thats the kind of chance you take. On the other hand Andruw Jones is arguably the best defensive OF in baseball. He can hit for power and drive in runs. The only knock would be his avg.

I'll buy that arguement. I'm jsut saying from the Braves side, I wouldn't do it either. I know it's a rumor but can't believe they would even offer something this big.

I say bring in Lidge and send Heilman on his way for a starter. Lidge still hasn't gotten over the HR he gave up to Pujols in the playoffs. You cannot deny his stuff though. I say:

Milledge (I want to keep him, but if we can get Oswalt, you make the trade)
Heilman
Bannister or Maine
Another Minor Leaguer
Cash
