Looks like Adam LaRoche to Pittsburgh for Mike Gonzalez may be getting closer... possibly other players involved.

His stats look alright if he is really over that injury from last year. I don't know much about him but I don't think he's enough for LaRoche though.

The Orioles (their owner) are so stupid. Roberts and Penn for LaRoche and Giles? Why would they not do that trade?

There better be more than one player involved in a deal for Adam LaRoche. And we better have someone to throw in at 1B. That guy was arguably our MVP last year.

I'd be shocked if Pirates GM Dave Littlefield pulls that off. He's not exactly known for making good trades (aside from the Giles/Bay/Perez deal).

As a Pirates fan, I'd be thrilled to get Laroche and only give up Gonzalez. Don't get me wrong, I think Gonzalez is an excellent pitcher with incredible stuff, but I'd trade a younger guy with 30+ HR potential over a reliever almost any day. The everyday player has more value to the Pirates.

This wasn't a blockbuster but I liked that the Mets picked up Ambiorix Burgos from the Mets in exchange for Brian Bannister. I think Burgos has the chance to be a dominant closer or a very good setup type guy in the future.

I don't want to trade LaRoche but Gonzalez is a stud and would shore up the pen. The only problem is he is a closer and if we get him I want him to close. That would leave Wickman, who also wants to close. I just don't see it. Now if Pittsburgh gave us Duke too, then it's A ok. I'm sure mjb wouldn't mind that.

The Braves have evidently traded Horacio Ramirez to Seattle for Rafael Soriano.

                    That's a helluva trade.

                      hehe

No go for Duke. The only Pirates starting pitcher I wouldn't really mind getting traded is Paul Maholm. Of course, assuming there's value in return which is always a question with the Pirates front office.

Littlefield has actually said he won't trade any of his 4 young starters (Duke, Snell, Gorzelanny, Maholm). Who knows though?

Looks like ATL is waiting to make sure Gonzalez is healthy (which is of course the right thing to do):

That's all that's holding it back. If this is true, I'm thrilled. Jason Bay might finally get some protection.

I liked Horam but that's a deal. Soriano has some nasty stuff. Should fit in perfect as the set up guy, and eventually take over as closer in a couple years, if he is still here. Nice trade.

I wonder how the Braves acquisition of Rafael Soriano will affect the Pittsburgh trade...

I like Gorzellany, he is going to be a stud. I'll take him and Gonzalez for 'Roche.

IMO, Gorzellany has the highest upside out of any of the starters I mentioned. He's filthy. Only concern with him is that he can get wild at times, but he's young so I don't see a problem yet.

I'm not taking that trade either!
