Eli/Chargers... Like I said in my previous post, with the dynamics of baseball, there's a good chance that we can outbid for Kazmir if we want to bring him back when he becomes a free agent. He's playing in Tampa Bay, now... While he's doing well, I'm sure most people think that he's probably not going to re-sign there.... If Kazmir wants big dough, his options are somewhat limited... Now, for Eli and co., the deal that got him sent to NY benefitted the Chargers big time, and will continue to do so for a long time... And they're stuck with him for the forseeable future.

As a Padre fan, there's about two dozen trades that they have made that makes me feel the same way. Much like Fred McGriff for Melvin Nieves in 1993.Comment

Re: Zito to...Giants!?
Ouch! I'll say Eli/Chargers because of the number of All-Stars that came out of that deal
I did not realize that Zito had a 1.40 WHIP last year. That's just atrocious. The Giants better hope/pray that this move pays off because that contract could become an albatross if Zito pitches like he did last year. The only way that contract is worth it is if he pitches at at least his 2005 level.Comment

That's what I was saying. He gives up a ton of baserunners. Less than a basehit per inning pitched, but I think he had nearly 100 walkes in about 220 innings.
Considering he doesn't induce many double plays, that's a lot of baserunners. Do the Giants play defense in the outfield as well as the A's?Comment

I like Zito, but I don't see him as an $18M dollar pitcher.Comment

Re: Zito to...Giants!?
I think it's more like, there's not a lot of pitching available, and so it was a sellers market. Zito wasn't even the best pitcher on his own team.Comment

I think we'll still wind up trading him, but teams will probably want us to sweeten the deal.Comment

Re: Zito to...Giants!?
Amen... Same will happen with Zito, I believe... He'll probably start out great, and then once people figure him out, he'll come back to earth... And when that happens, it's probably better for him that he's in San Francisco... It would have gotten UGLY if he had signed that contract with either NY team, and he wound up under-performing.... UGLY, I tell you.Comment
