Pineiro is the Mariners' best pitcher. It's a given that Matsui will have about 150 strikeouts if not more. I think he'll hit .288 with 24 home runs and 88 rbis with 74 runs. It's kinda hard to get rbis in front of you when you have Soriano the strikeout machine and home run hitter, the pathetic derek jeter, and Giambi is never on base due to home runs.

Yea I guess they are. I think the only one though I'd change would be the average. Make it more like .260.Comment

Re: GODZILLA!!
I could see Matsui ending up in the 4th spot of the Yankees outfield with White, Williams, and Mondesi already in place.
Joel Pineiro is perhaps the best young pitcher in the game in my believe. The guy is awsome. His rookie year he had an era of 2.38 or something and in his first year as a starter he was still in the low 3's. I remember going to a Mariners game vs. Toronto and him striking out 11 I was blown away. He's got great stuff and is so underrated in the media compared to other good young pitchers like Roy Oswalt and Jeff Weaver (who is nowhere near the caliber of Pineiro)Comment

Re: GODZILLA!!
Pineiro has a nasty curveball a good change up and a decent fastball, Great poise on the mound. To say that he is the Mariners best pitcher is a stretch though. Freddy Garcia if pitching how he did in 2001 has him beat. Pinerio isn't as durable as Garcia and he wore down at the end of last year, which is to be expected because it was his first full year. 1rst half 2.70 era, 2nd half 3.80....That being said Gracia was horrible in the second half last year. This year will be the decider on who is the Mariners real no.1 starter. Watch out for Gil Meche, he might be better then both if he's healthy.Comment

Re: GODZILLA!!
I think Matsui will get every chance to succeed for the Yankees with the contract that they gave him. I agree that he's overated and think he'll probably be good for .270 20 65. He's also less than average in the field, and with Giambi and Johnson splitting time between first and DH, he'll have to tough it out in leftfield. Should be interesting.Comment

Re: GODZILLA!!
Here is what The Sporting News says about him, I would think they have more of a clue then all of us here...

Called “Godzilla” in Japan, Matsui has been tabbed Japan’s answer to Jason Giambi by more than one American scout. Matsui is an outfielder, and a decent one at that, but otherwise he has Giambi’s prime traits: patience, a solid lefty swing and the ability to hit for power and average. Matsui probably won’t top 35 homers in the U.S., but there is no reason he can’t be very comparable with Paul O’Neill.
Fantasy Spin: Matsui has the skills and polish to be a big-league All-StarComment
