Morris must want to hang himself right now. I know SF isn't having a great year, but at least he'd get to witness Bonds hitting 756.

IDK according to some quotes, he wasn't to happy about that either.

Another deadline and another year the Dodgers do nothing. I know they got Proctor for Betemit, but we needed more power imo. The Dodgers just need to figure out a way to get Kemp on the field everyday, but with Luis Gonzalez, Pierre, Ethier and Kemp someone has to sit and its been either Ethier or Kemp sitting it seems. Kind of discouraging to see the Padres make so many moves to better themselves while we bring in Proctor and thats it, good guy out of the pen but I was really hoping for more this year.

I'm glad Morris is gone; he completely blew up in all his games because his name was out there rumored to be dealt. It also helps that the Pirates are taking on the remainder of his contract.

As I posted on a Pirates board, "Welcome to Hell Morris".

Nothing ceases to amaze me with the Pittsburgh Pirates. They'll pass on a potential star like Matt Wieters in the draft and then pick a frickin' reliever with little upside with the 4th overall pick, but will take on Matt Morris and his 10MIL salary. Idiots.

As is the case every year, aside from newspaper clippings and watching an occasional game, baseball ended for me months ago. It's Steeler season!!

It's hard to feel bad for a small market team like the Pirates when they are spending their money on Matt Morris.

WTF is the point in bringing him in?

Maybe the Yankees should have talked to the Pirates about Farnsworth, I bet they would have taken him.

What a job by Theo here. I can't even believe that Cashman wouldn't part ways with Melky for a chance at Gagne. I guess he really doesn't believe this Yankees squad can get it done. What am I missing with Melky? Why is he so valuable?

Red Sox have by far the best overall pitching staff in MLB right now. The Tigers starters can stand toe to toe with the Red Sox, but with the combination of starting rotation and bullpen, the Red Sox are beasts.

Also the Braves getting Teixeira and Dotel is sick. I'm definitely going to be visiting more games now that they have a guy who can actually hit the ball with pop. What a phenomenal day of trades.

.850 OPS this year since they started playing him on a regular basis. Good outfielder with a great arm. I wouldn't by any means consider him untouchable, but I wouldn't trade him for 25 innings of Gagne either.

That said, great deal for the Red Sox. They are in position where adding a player like Gagne might put them over the top. I don't think the Yankees were in that position.

I agree with ya, Melky is going to be a real good player when that Damon guy is gone and he's playing everyday, Melky for Gane I wouldn't have done either.

Honestly, I don't know enough about him as I've only seen him pitch 1 game and that was in the CWS. He got hit pretty hard that game, but the sample size is so small.

What I'm not a fan of is drafting a guy #4 overall and then projecting him to be a relief pitcher. I don't find the value in that - especially in an organization that desperately needs hitters. IMO a #4 overall player is one who is projected as a top line starting pitcher or a starter at the MLB level. Not a guy who might make 70 appearances a year. Hopefully that makes sense.

Plus I was hoping the Pirates would look for a bat as many of their recent early round drafts have been pitchers and many of those pitchers have gone down with serious arm injuries. Brad Lincoln is the latest (TJ surgery this past offseason).

There are so many problems with the Pirates org that it would be tough to name them all. The Owners are cheap and choose to often pocket the money they have instead of putting it into the team. The GM is an idiot who doesn't know how to spend money on the rare occurrences that he does have it. The Manager doesn't know how to manage outside of the box and has lost the team. I've never seen a sloppier team than this years version and that's a direct reflection on the manager.

                          OK, enough of my rant.

Good luck with Matt, he has great first halves. I think the Giants are trying to get rid of some money contracts.

I love Andruw, but this production (or lack thereof) coupled with his inability to hustle down the line really pisses me off.
You're right, but that just isn't how the game works these days. It's unfortunate but there isn't a whole lot of loyalty anymore. I'm sure the Braves will make him an offer but he and his agent will ask for more and probably get it elsewhere. I'm not so sure that the Braves will even want him after this season though, LOL. He's struggled mightily. He'll probably end up in Yankee pinstripes. They seem to have an endless supply of money always.

That's the real key. Gagne will want to close again after this season so he won't resign with Boston nor would he have resigned with the Yankees if he ended up in the Bronx.

Smart move by Cashman turning down that trade, I mean Melky is still 22 years old - he's a solid 6-7 years away from entering his prime. He may not even be an All-Star at any point in his career, but I'm glad we kept him instead of shipping him away for a Gagne for two months.
