    I agree with you spyder.

Lets just wait and see what happens. That is all we can do. Im with you on this one spyder..Regardless of what happens the Yanks will have a great team next season..with or without Santana.

Like every year the Yanks will be predicted to win the WS by ESPN analyst come the beginning of the Baseball season.

No, it's not fair, but so is life. You have no right to complain to the next man, if you don't have the same amount of money or stuff as him, we all have to achieve our goals with whatever resources that are available to us. You should be grateful for any little help you get, not be bitching (even though I understand the reason for it.) Having money is not as important as having smarts nor does it excuse it, which some franchises are starting to realize now. Just look at the Colorado Rockies from this past season, and there's plenty more examples. Not going to deny that having money makes your job easier, but there's usually a reason for every thing that happens.
We are going to go back and fourth on this...we are the opposite ends of the this arguement. This is not life...this is a professional sport that should have a level playing field...or else it should be like the Europeans do their soccer league with tiered classes where teams move up and down dependent on talent and budget. And to throw the Rockies under the bus, tiss tiss tiss. Like any national league team had a chance. Even on that level we are beginning to see the difference of two different league...two different rules....two different styles of play brought up by two different methods of strategy, and all of this which is supposed to be under one basic game of baseball. I am sorry....you are just proving my point. But I don't disagree with you that teams can go out there and spend to their hearts content....just don't think that will bring any integrity to the league either.

Wait whats worse, spending 100+ mil on a Japanese MLB import that goes 15-12 with a 4.40 era, 1.32 whip, or spending 46+ mil on a Japanese MLB import that goes 2-3 with a 6.25 era 1.67 whip.

I think the yanks lost that one.

By the way, it was hilarious watching Steve Phillips on Baseball Tonight last night, basically saying give the Twins whatever they want for Santana. Kennedy, Hughes, Cabrera and he would do it in a heartbeat.

And you wonder why you were one of the worst GM's in recent history, Stevie.

That deal is awful. Freaking Coco Crisp!!?? Are you serious? And Lester, Lowrie and Masterson?

Wow the Twins really ARE stupid. Good, serves them right to get completely fleeced like this. For crying out loud, at least get Ellsbury. So they ask the Yankees for the farm, and then they want this bunch of bunk from Boston.

Man, they should have just contracted Minnesota a few years ago like they talked about.

I don't understand how the Twins are demanding Hughes and Kennedy, but they don't demand Buchholz from Boston.

I don't understand either, but I'm going to guess it has something to do with the availability of better position prospects which the Twins are in dire need of.

The Sox supposedly told them they'll just walk away rather than trade Ellsbury and Lester. You can't just demand the guy be included when a team tells you that knowing that the team really doesn't need your guy. It's not like Lester is a slouch and neither is Masterson. I wouldn't be too shocked to see Masterson become a top flight hard-throwing sinker-balling reliever in a couple years. Lowrie I don't know too much about but I've heard mixed things. As for the Yankees package, I think Hughes is good but overrated (Chamberlain is miles better IMO) and Cabrera isn't worth nearly as much as some people think he is, at least not to a team like the Yankees that can afford much better overall position players. He looks like he's going to become a lousier fielding version of Coca Crisp, if even that passable a hitter. Also, the Yankees NEED to make this deal otherwise they're right where they were last year but older in the field and once again without a top flight starter.

I don't think you can call Hughes overrated yet, let's see how he does for a full season without recovering from a hamstring injury. We have no idea how Chamberlain will be as a starter, he might have a .340 BAA the third time through the order or stamina issues because of his weight.

The thing with this entire trade is that people who want it to happen for the Yanks are doing it because in their mind Santana is an automatic win the postseason. I don't think he is, his post season numbers aren't anything amazing and he'll be needed to pitch against the Red Sox and in Fenway in the playoffs most likely. Santana isn't going to give us that much more in the regular season, this team will still contend for the AL East with or without him.

As for the part I bolded, the Yankees were the best team in baseball the second half of the year, I don't think that's a bad place to be. Plus we'll have the three young pitchers for the entire season so I don't think the team is the same at all. People act like it's impossible to win a WS without a top flight starter. The Cardinals, White Sox and Angels didn't seem to have much trouble without a top-flight ace in the last five years.
