I agree with Cash here. The payroll would have been outrageous. It looks like the Yanks are finally moving away from throwing cash around like it is unlimited. Good far Cash here i think

Just pointing out that, while everyone seems to think the Yanks are going to get him, the Red Sox are the only team scheduled to meet with the Twins again.
The Red Sox aren't the only team. It looks like they are trying to pick negotiations back up with the Mets, Angels, and Dodgers.

Looking it at makes me think that the Twins aren't really that happy with the Red Sox deal and are still trying to get something better.

Yeah and like the Sox are any different. They spend a crap load of money every year as well. Would be funny if the Sox dont even make it to the playoffs next year After all, the Sox are becoming what they hate..the Yankees.

Except they gave A-Rod around $300 million and Rivera and Posada a combined $100 million.

True, but if the Santana deal goes through for the Sox, remember that Santana has a no trade clause and the Sox will have to negotiate an extension if they want him to waive. Its not just players its players and money. The last time I checked the Sox aren't hesitant to spend some cash as well. Look at last year when they paid $50million just to talk to Dice-K

                    Never said they weren't.

But all of those players listed, the Boston teams had to give up something in exchange and didn't "buy" them. Just figured I'd point that out.

If it comes down to taking the Boston or NY deal or keeping Santana which would you do? This is starting to look a little bleak.

I think the Twins f**ked themselves by not taking the Yankees deal. Im a little biased but if the Twins are to compete next year in the Central with the Tigers becoming powerful offensively by acquiring Cabrera, they should keep Santana this year. Makes no sense to take what the Sox have to offer IMO.

There's no completing in the Central next year regardless of what the Twins do.

The Twins were not even asking the Yankees for that much after Hughes and Cabrera. The other names were Marquez and Hilligoss. Cashman loves Hughes and did not even want to do the deal with Santana in the first place.

The way I look at it is that the Red Sox are bidding against themselves. The Twins are trying to bring the LA teams to the mix. If they are not happy with the offers they are getting they should just keep Santana and if they can't sign him they get 2 1st round picks next year.

Boston couldn't be bidding against themselves when they refuse to include their two top prospects.

If anything, Boston is being smart here and realizing that there are no other players.

There's a reason why Minnesota is now trying to get other teams involved. It's the only way they can pry more talent from Boston.
