how can you not get roster updates in the game, NBA2k3 has it NFL2k3 has it whats the problem?
MVP also comes up short with no roster updates.
i guess its high heat for me this year.
SEGA is about threw in my book
    can someone answer this?
how come all the new segasports games where xbox live playable, NFL,NHL,NBA,NCAA, i dont get it makes no sense to me.
in all acuality baseball game should be the easiest to get online with the smoothest play because of the lack of constant motion.
    No online play,
no roster downloads looks like another lost chance for sega,
the question is how many more chances are they going to get?

    <hr /></blockquote><font class="post">

How many damn threads are you going to go into and say "insert company" dropped the ball??

In ASB it was "NO WIDESCREEN, ACCLAIM DROPPED THE BALL!!!"

    damn...

perfectly said, if sega would have waited 2 or 3 months and got online play in. there sales would have been threw the roof, just as you said alot of gamers that arnt even baseball fans would have gotten it.

You obviously don't know much about the video game business. Sports games pretty much have to come out at the beginning of their respective seasons or they won't make any money. If they waited 2 or 3 months, everyone would have bought the other games already, and this one would be left out in the cold. I already saw a thread here that asked why people were waiting for MVP and WSB when there were two perfectly good games already on the market. Sega's baseball game came out late the past 2 years, and they suffered for it.

How do you know this game was rushed? Have you seen that in print anywhere. The same company has worked on this game for the past 3 years. I'd stop throwing accusations like that around. Speaking of, a different company makes this game than Sega's other sports games.
Why is lack of online play a killer for you? I think only Inside Pitch is going to use XBOX Live this year. Online play is not an easy thing to get right, and would be more noticable in a baseball game with all the timing needed than in a football game or basketball game. I'm not saying that's an excuse, mind you, but maybe they never planned on having online play this year. From what it sounds like, they wanted to focus on the gameplay first and foremost this year. I'd like to see online play working, but it didn't work too well for WSB2k2 for Dreamcast. To me it's kind of a throw-away feature, not real important, especially if it doesn't work right.
Also, I saw in an interview that they plan on putting out roster updates.

People in this day will always complain, if they offered online play and it didnt work as well as someone hoped then it would be " Company X dropped the ball!!! they should have spent their time putting in x features or tweaking x feature and dropping online play" ad nauseum.

If you think for one minute that any development team dont want to put in as many features as they can, then you need to move on to another hobby. Especially this day in age, with budget constraints, small development cycles, and perhaps small teams. You cant just say : hey get them to put in 28 guys on a component and add it into the game at the end" The more people working on a project the harder it becomes to control versionsioning, debugging, etc. So now you end up lengthneing the development time. PUBLISHER X cannot have that; that game must be out before the season starts ( in baseball's case), so what happens then? If you want to blame someone blame those who have made the video game industry a machine. While its good in some ways, working on the game, from what i have seen and read, is definitely much harder than it was even 10 years ago.

Its easy to sit here and criticize the faults and bugs in games, in the same way its easy to be a monday morning quarterback and bash your teams star players. I guess thats why we do it. But have you ever thought about just playing a game just because its a game. And there are 5 + baseball games to pick from this year. I would hope at least one of them would satisfy you.

Re: SEGA dropped the ball again!

If you want online play, stick to PC versions of the games being released. I would much rather have gameplay details, such as franchise mode, and a good fun factor. But I do think if a company such as sega or EA, etc. would take the time to creat the ULTIMATE baseball game, they would make a killing. By ULTIMATE, I mean, lets put a few features from every game released to this point, that people can actually use into one game. Start on it now, that way you can take 2 or 3 years to have it in developement. My idea of the perfect game would be as follows:

Franchise Mode: By far the best franchise capabilities is in the OOTP games. The detail involved here is amazing.

Graphics: So far I have to say the best graphics I've seen, judging by movies and screenshots is WSB, other than the player scalling, which could easily be corrected with more developement time. The player scalling isn't that big a deal to me personally, but it would have to be corrected for the ultimate baseball game.

CPU AI: The sliders options in High Heat seem to be on the right track with this, but as far as I can tell, it's still a little bit off, no matter what anyone does with them. Make the CPU smart enough to know when to pitch around, attampt to pick off, attempt to steal. I've seen the CPU attempt to steal 3rd with 2 outs in the late innings of 3 and 4 run games. This is not smart baserunning, especially with a guy like Pudge behind the plate. Lefty/Lefty match-ups, I still have yet to see this in any console game. I personally have trouble hitting left handed pitchers. Maybe its only because you dont see them as often as righties, or what, I don't know, but this would be a nice addition. If the game is too predicatable, whats the fun in playing it?

Gameplay: I want full control of everything in the field. I want to make the diving stab in the hole, I want to throw a pitch, and not have it go to the exact point I aimed every single time, unless I in the early innings of a game, and Schilling and his control abilities are on the mound. I don't want to see a knucklballer hitting his spot on every pitch. I want to get thrown out trying to steal 2nd base, without thinking I have to do it intentionally, like in ASB 2003, I never once got thrown out stealing, even with guys like Giambi and Posada.

For those of you who have to have online play and roster updates, put that in there as well. I personally ussually do a draft before my franchise, so roster up-dates would only interest me for individual player ability ratings. Meaning as guys get older, they get weaker in certain areas of their abilities, but this cold easily be corrected using an engine such as OOTP. younger guys develope, older guys deminish. If online play can be perfected, to be no different than if you were playing on the same system and TV, then I would like that. But all in all, I want a game that will hold my interest for more than 10 months. I would be willing to pay $20 or $30 more than the normal $49 for a PS2 game if they would do this, I would even pay a few extra dollars each year for some sort of update or patch like release.

They can put a man on the moon, they can build a car that runs solely off the light from the sun, they can even make a duplicate copy of a human being by cloning, but they can't figure out a way to make the baseball video game?.... It's all about money, and as long as suckers like us keep spending our money and our parents money for these mediocre versions of baseball, they will never even attempt to conceive a game like this.

I would think that the gaming industry, being a competition for products, have no where near the resources that a country as a whole will plug into research and development. The race to put a man on the moon was subsisized by our government in order to beat the Russians to outer space. Making a car run solely on light has been researched because eventually we will run out of oil, to the need to find other sources of energy gets PLENTY of more money than a development firm to make a game; plus the fact that they take years just on research alone. Imagine EA coming out and saying, hey we will bring out a madden with everything you want and need by 2015, just keep sending us money to funde development.

And of course, cloning a human is something which is still highly in the R&amp;D stages, and there is no time period to have this succeed, just as "soon as its ready"

I do agree with you that we, as consumers, subsidize these products, and those of us who arent happy should not invest in the companies, but there is no way you can mention achievements such as walking on the moon compared to seeing a working scoreboard in a baseball game.

Actually, you have it backwards. The more people that buy the games, the more money publishers are willing to spend. Spending money = risk and higher potential returns are the only reason for increased risk.

That's why football games have huge budgets and baseball games have relatively small ones. If baseball games this year sold a combined 6,000,000 copies instead of the usual 1,000,000, you can bet publishers would be spending more in the future to get a bigger piece of that pie. Not buying the games will just cause publishers not to want to make baseball games at all.
