    Re: NY Mets Thread

Gammons has them going after Billy Beane or Sabean. I don't know about all that.........

BTW: I'm an avid Mets fan. Chavez (pic) is my favorite player though.

now, having said that, exactly WHAT is the delay in bringing up Reyes? he doesnt need to be a savior, no one player can save this team, but an infusion of life, zeal, spirit etc is sorely needed around here

The organization still doesn't feel like he is ready. The media have already made up their mind that he will be here next month, but I have to go with our scouts and AAA manager on this one.

Reyes is 19 years old, that is EXACTLY the delay in bringing him up. The team needs to do what's best for Reyes, not what might help the current Mets team. This team needs to win with or without him. The worst thing the Mets could do is make a knee jerk move to bring up Reyes and have it be too soon. Besides, do you really want him getting thrown into the negative environment that is the Mets right now? I say wait till after the All Star break and if the Mets are out, bring up Reyes, and even then, only if he is tearing it up in AAA. Right now he is only hitting .250, not exactly dominating .

Sabean has said on the radio that he's not going to leave the bay area, and Beane has turned down big deals in the past to stay w/ oakland.

thats a good point, i hadnt even taken into consideration how the current clubhouse environment might corrupt him....ill give patience another chance

maybe as an alternative......cut Sanchez, send Cedeno down to work on his fundamentals, and BBQ Vaughn....i thihnk without those 3 around it might kill the bug up Alomar's *** and turn him back into a ballplayer.....i mean, i love the guy, but he went straight in the tank upon arrival

they need to do the big R. that's rebuild. no one's going to take vaugh without the mets paying practically all of his salary. there's also a rumor that he might retire because of his injury, but i don't think he will given his huge contract and the fact that he couldn't possibly get any worse. they could get value for alomar and get something for benitez once he proves he can get out of his closing slump. if anything, reyes should be called up towards the end of the season. there's no rush for him to be called up untill the mets can prove they're somewhat contending and he can make a difference next year.

another big situation is that the ny media is pressuring piazza to play 1st base. that's also a problem if the mets rebuild. he's too old, can't throw a guy to save his life, and he won't play 1st base or DH. therefore, no team wants to give up alot for him as he's making 15 mil. a big big mess if you ask me....

ah, but Vaughn's contract is covered 75% by insurance if he is injured and can't play anymore...we can only hope. They can and should trade alomar for prospects. I think Piazza is finally moving towards moving to 1st base with all the recent injuries he is getting frustrated. How is this potential lineup for late 2003

                                Reyes - SS
                                Perez - CF
                                Floyd - LF
                                Piazza - 1B
                                Clark - RF
                                Wigginton -3B
                                Wilson - C
                                Sanchez - 2B

I would love to see that lineup. You have Mcewing and Bell too to help the Middle infield and who know who you can get for alomar.
