    Re: NY Mets Thread

If anything, I'd like to see Leiter in the playoffs again, and quickest way for that is for him to get traded. Living in the NW as I do I'd like to see him with the Mariners, preferably pitching the M's past the Yankees in the playoffs later this year, and I'd like to see the Mets get Shin-Soo Choo, Cliff Nageotte or Chris Snelling in return for him. I've got it all planned out. And the Mets already have Glavine and Cone for tutoring, they don't need 3 tutors. That's what a pitching coach is for.

Don't get me wrong, I love Leiter. With Alfonzo gone he's my favorite Met. It'd be nice to see him move on and take another shot at a WS crown.

I can't believe I haven't complained about Fonzie in this thread yet. I am still pissed off that they did not re-sign him, he was by far my favorite Met. I love Wigginton, but no one can replace Fonzie.

Dotel for Hampton was not a good move. We got 1 year out of Hampton. Yes, he helped us get to the World Series, but he didn't help us win it. I'd rather still have Dotel, that would give us alot more flexibility in the pen.

Very unlikely we will find a taker for Benitez, once closers go bad, they are gone. No one is going to give up anyone good for the risk of Benitez. I suppose we could deal Leiter, though I would be sad to see him go.

Maybe we could just start winning with the players we have....

even though fonzie's a fan favorite, he's not the same as he once was once he injured his back. for the type of money he wanted, it's not worth it because he's fallen off offensively and defensively.

it was a risk to trade for hampton, the mets knew it at the time, but he was a good pitcher. dotel wasn't that good back then. if i can also remember correctly that cedeno was part of the deal, he was the one i didn't want them to trade, but that's not the worst of deals i've seen them done recently.

i'm also hearing alomar for vina talks and also the cards involving benitez. if they trade alomar, i hope it's for a good prospect and not just a player that makes less money and is a little younger.

looks like we might be able to dump vaughn, man would that be great! The article does not mention it, but his contract is covered 75% by insurance if he has a debilitating injury, much like the Albert Belle deal in Baltimore. The Mets would put him on the DL and he would stay their till his contract is done, they would only have to cover 25%.

i'm glad to see piazza finally contemplating moving to 1st. he has to realize that people will still view him as the greatest hitting catcher and that he sucks defensively and him still catching is only making it worse. he can lessen the injuries and prolong his career plus make a better defensive lineup for teams (it might even improve his hitting). not to mention that teams will now be interested in him playing 1st or DH
