Re: Waiver claim placed on Alex Rios
Whoever is doing it is full of stupid.
If it's Minaya, he should see the door after this season."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Re: Waiver claim placed on Alex Rios
On the MLB Network Tom Verducci has just said that Alex Rios had to pass through all the AL teams first before any NL teams (like the Mets) get a chance at him, and he didn't get through them all. So this info pretty much confirms that it was definitely an AL team that claimed Rios.

Re: Waiver claim placed on Alex Rios
I would strongly consider letting the team that claimed him have him. He has a lot of years left on his deal that's about to become more expensive. I'm not a fan of selling low but in this instance the payroll saved may be worth it alone. It's just too bad for Toronto nobody claimed Wells.Comment

Re: Waiver claim placed on Alex Rios
If it were Boston that put the claim in I would think Toronto would be delighted to shackle a division rival to a no power corner outfielder for the next 5 years for approximately 60 million. Especially given that Boston has its own contract issues to deal with in Bay and Beckett (who only has 1 year left on his deal). As a Sox fan, I really hope Boston did not put in a claim on Rios, he'd just end up being a right-handed JD Drew and its bad enough I have to watch him for two more years. I don't want to watch Rios for five.Comment
