Re: Hall Of Fame: Yes Or No?
Okay, it's Monday. For the heinous crime of doubting me, I sentence SPTO a two week avatar penalty, a new one each week.
Here's your av from now until Jan. 25: Casual Touchdown Tom. He's got your fellow Ontarian Bieber's hairdo and he's ready to party. Enjoy!

He'll be on the ballot next year for the first time…don't recall if we've discussed him in here or not, but what do people think about Jim Edmonds chances?"People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. Re: Hall Of Fame: Yes Or No?
Well, with regards to Edmonds, he had a fantastic career, sneaky good. But with how deep the field is over the next few years, I'm not sure the voters vote him in, with the rules as present.
Looking at those retained on the ballot, and a list of names eligible next year, my top 10 would have to include Mike Piazza, Jeff Bagwell, Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens, Mike Mussina, Ken Griffey Jr, Edgar Martinez, Curt Schilling, Billy Wagner, and Trevor Hoffman (in no particular order).
Edmonds, like Sheffield, Trammell, and a few others, had a good career, and one that should be celebrated. But with respect to those guys, since you can only vote 10, their cases are hurt.
Edmonds put up 60.3 WAR in his career, which may surprise people, but by WAR, he has the 12th most of those eligible for voting. So even voters who go purely by WAR (which they shouldn't) wouldn't vote for Edmonds in the coming year.
In 2017, they add Pudge Rodriguez, Manny Ramirez, Vlad Guerrero, Jorge Posada and a couple more fringe guys.
In 2018, they add Chipper Jones, Jim Thome, Scott Rolen, and Andruw Jones (who also put up 60+ WAR)
In 2019, they add Mariano Rivera, Roy Halladay, Todd Helton, Andy Pettitte, Lance Berkman...
Point is, each year, for the next 3-4, tons of big names are going to join the discussion, in addition to the ones on the ballot that should be in, but aren't, yet.
The only way I see Edmonds reaching the HoF is if a lot of names get voted in the next couple years. If you enshrine say 5 people next year (which would be ridiculous, since the BBWAA hasn't enshrined that many people since the inaugural class of 1936), then the fringe guys like Sheffield, Edmonds, and co get more consideration.
I think Edmonds will get enough support to stay on the ballot, but is unlikely to get in unless rules change.-the least famous person you've never heard of.Comment
