Also Clemens. Arguably the best pitcher during the height of the steroid era.

Without a question it's Barry Bonds.

He was a HOFer before, during, and after the 'roids.

Not counting steroid guys, I'll go Edgar Martinez or Tim Raines.

The HoF is already packed full of rule breakers so there is no need to "not count" steroid users/suspects.

            Amen on both...without question.

The 1995 Division series alone is HOF worthy for Edgar; fully saved baseball in Seattle.

Jim Rice is the first name to come to mind. Lou Brock doesn't have much of a case either other than having a flashy hit and stolen base total.

They'll both probably be surpassed by David Ortiz once he's inducted 10 years from now.

I didn't say that at all. I was just excluding them from this because I feel like it's rather obvious that Bonds and Clemens deserve in.

Jim Rice definitely shouldn't be in. That's pretty much universally understood by all non-Red Sox fans.

                    Others who shouldn't be in:

                    Bob Lemon
                    Goose Gossage
                    Bruce Sutter
                    Tony Perez

Care to explain? I see reason for him to be in the Hall. He is easily one of the greatest clutch hitters in postseason history.

I think they both deserve to be in the Hall... now Edgar probably is better. But why can't 2 have DH's in the fame? It's a position in baseball and it should be seen that way. Who cares if it's some old guy trying to give him a couple more years in league. Or some guy who couldn't field.

Ortiz is around 45 WAR when the acceptable threshold for HOF induction is around 60-70 WAR. The .400 wOBA he put up in 82 postseason games tilts things a little further in his direction, but yeah, objectively, he's still well short of where you would expect a HOFer to be.

...he's still getting in though. Assuming he wants it, he'll probably reach 500 HRs and he will have been at the center of 3 Red Sox championship teams. And he has the whole "ZOMG CLUTCH!!!" narrative behind him too.

Other than baseball card counting stats and team accomplishments, the two aren't really in the same tier.

Ortiz was a great hitter; Martinez might be one of the 30 greatest hitters in the history of baseball.
