Re: Hall Of Fame: Yes Or No?
Morris wasn't a Hall of Fame pitcher. Almost every argument for his enshrinement centers around how much of a big game pitcher he was. He pitched a fantastic game in the 1991 World Series, but his postseason numbers are only marginally better than his regular season statistics, which is to say, they aren't very good.

Re: Hall Of Fame: Yes Or No?
No need to drop it if you don't want to. This thread's here so we can discuss things.
In the 1980s, Morris had a 3.66 ERA, for an adjusted ERA of 109. He struck out six hitters per nine innings and had a K/BB ratio of 1.90. He never had an ERA+ better than 127.
Dave Stieb had an ERA+ of 127 for the decade. Doc's was 132. Jimmy Key's was 124. Alejandro Pena's was 121.
I don't think posting an ERA 10% better than the league average qualifies as "dominant."Comment

Re: Hall Of Fame: Yes Or No?
Thanks
Well I always thought Stieb was the best pitcher of the decade at least in the AL so
I think Morris is one of those guys that will never get it but his best shot is with the vets committee (they still have a form of that right?)
Speaking of guys from the '80s Alan Trammel and Tony Fernandez should have their pictures next to the word "underrated". Both are very borderline but man did they play great defense in the field.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: Hall Of Fame: Yes Or No?
He had more wins than anyone else during the 1980-89 seasons. Morris was good, consistent, durable. That to me does not equal dominance, unless you consider Mark Grace to be the dominant hitter of the 90s. Clemens and Saberhagen won 2 AL Cy Youngs apiece in the 80s, while Morris never finished higher than 3rd, despite playing on some excellent teams.Originally posted by Thrash13Dr. Jones was right in stating that.
