Re: Jason LaRue forced to retire..

I agree that it was very girlie on Cueto's part. But anyone that thinks he should be banned from the game or have legal actions taken against him is not thinking it through. The guy is from another country, in his second year. He was pushed up against the net with about 40 guys on top of him and he was scared ****less. What he did was absolutely not right and I would never condone it. But he wasn't taking a skate off after a hit and attacking a guy. He was scared and doing what he could to protect himself. He didn't get into the fight thinking he was going to purposely kick people with his spikes.

Again, I don't condone it and I think he was girlie for the way he fought. He was held accountable for his actions as he was fined and served a suspension. Hopefully he will never do anything like that again and hopefully he will not be a in position where that could happen again.

Some of you guys are acting like he is a thug that is always fighting and knew what he was doing. He lost his head and did something he absolutely shouldn't have done but in the heat of the moment, in a country you aren't in for very long, with 25-40 guys smothering him, he did the only thing his brain waves made him do. It sucks for LaRue and I honestly feel bad for him. However, I believe, just like he said that the doctor told him, it was just a matter of time and one more knock to the head would have forced him to retire. It doesn't make it right and it is certainly a horrible way to go out, but let's not pin Cueto as some bad boy of baseball for it.

If he ever did it again, then I would ride the "ban him from baseball" bandwagon.

Re: Jason LaRue forced to retire..

So we are now saying its because he is an immagrint who was scared because he was surrounded by several people? WOW! SMH..

He knew exactly what he was doing. He was surrounded primarily by his own teammates. He put his hands on the railing, pulled himself up and kicked LaRue in the face and Carp in the back. LaRue is being held by Reds' players when Cueto kicks him.

          Don't believe me..watch the video..

          <object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/z_xqrOONh2g&color1=0xb1b1b1&color2=0xd0d0d0&hl=en_ US&feature=player_embedded&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/z_xqrOONh2g&color1=0xb1b1b1&color2=0xd0d0d0&hl=en_ US&feature=player_embedded&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="640" height="385"></embed></object>

Anymore excuses we'd like to make for this heinous act?

I am absolutely dumbfounded by the excuses and the justifications that are taking place in defense of what Cueto did. Absolutely dumbfounded.

And thats completely uncalled for. No reason to wish the guy a career ending injury. What he did was heinous, but to wish him an injury is no better.

The logic (maybe illogical) of it was:

He basically ended the career of a player so he should have his career ended. Eye for an eye etc.

                But I fixed it

Watch the video...Carpenter has his back to him and he's surrounded by his own players. He puts his hands on the railing, lifts himself up and kicks with his feet. He's a bitch.

EDIT: Attached is a pic of Carpenter in the same situation..does he kick? The answer is no.

I have no sword in the fight but I find it comical you posted a picture of Carpenter surrounded by Cardinals to prove your point, of course he didn't kick his teammates.

I'm guessing you didn't see Rolen and Gomes in that picture to Carpenter's right? I'll help you, they are wearing white jerseys.

I have no dog in this fight as a Cubs fan, but the Reds fans defending Cueto need to understand there is a time when you should set aside your fan-ships and look at the situation through your non-homer glasses. Physical harm to another player, intentionally, not in the spirit of the game, all at once is that time. Your player clearly had every intention of hurting LaRue, and you're defending him. And not only did he try to hurt him; he ended his career.

I don't think it's too radical to say Cueto should be banned from baseball for life after a kick to the head with spikes.

And if not, he should at least have his man card revoked for that bitch move he pulled.

I want to stay out of all this nonsense, but I must say that people calling for a lifetime ban are going a tad too far. If folks recall, Albert Belle gave Fernando Vina a forearm shiver on a potential GIDP and I think he was suspended about 7 games. I don't see this as much different.

Spikes are, like a bat, a dangerous weapon when there is intent to hurt. I'm not talking about spiking a player on a slide, I'm talking about a kick to an area as fragile as the human head. Cueto knew where he was kicking and knew what could happen as a result of it. And now a guy is forced to retire because of it.

I don't think a lifetime ban is even the slightest bit out there.
