    Managers: Who's in?/Who's out?

Chicago Cubs: Lou Piniella retired on august 22nd replaced by Mike Quade as interim-manager
Florida: Fredi Gonzalez on june 23rd replaced by Edwin Rodriguez as interim-manager
Los Angles Dodgers: Joe Torre retired
Milwaukee: will not exercise option on Ken Macha
New York Mets: will not exercise option on Jerry Manuel
Seattle: Don Wakamatsu fired on august 9th replaced by Daren Brown as interim-manager
    Toronto: Cito Gaston retired

    Who's in:
Arizona: Kirk Gibson is expected to be named manager on monday
Cincinnati: the Reds will announce a two-year extension for Dusty Baker after the post-season
Los Angeles Dodgers: Don Mattingly has been named manager

    Undecided:
New York Yankees: Joe Girardi's contract expires after Yankees season ends
Pittsburgh: Pirates are deciding whether or not to retain John Russell as manager

Will be a lot of new faces at the helm of teams next season. Ot will be interesting to see how many first-time managers are named and how many are recycled to new teams.

STL and NYY will keep managers while Pitt will probably let Russell go.

It was fun, Grandpa Macha, but your time is up.

I take that back. It wasn't fun. It was pain inducing. It was like watching, well, Ned Yost, the guy he replaced.

Even though Baltimore doesn't classify, I'm interested in how they play next season with Showalter running the team, 34-23 since he took over

Joe Girardi shouldn't get a new contract. I dont care how many games the Yankees have won Girardi can not control the team and is a mental case when it comes to pressure situations. Hes burned through the bullpen between last year and this year and he over manages the team constantly which often causes them to loose.

Actually Russell's already been fired from what i've heard. The GM is staying though.

As for Toronto, names being bounced around as far as interviews go are: Don Baylor, Eric Wedge, Doug Melvin, Yanks 3rd base coach Robby Thomson, Jays 3rd base coach Brian Butterfield and Jays bench coach Nick Leyva.

The only non organizational guy I might be interested in is Thomson. The rest I wouldn't want anywhere near the Jays clubhouse.

Yeah, Russell has been fired. Neal Huntington stays, though, and that's rightfully so. I'll by no means blame the Pirates struggles on John Russell, he had nothing to work with in his three years, but at the same time I don't feel he was the guy to lead this new core to where they need to be.

I really hope we don't bring in Ken Macha.

for the Pirates to have the audacity to fire a manager after they consistently trade away any talent the team gets....

We've been over this a billion times. Under Russell, what "talent" did they trade away to kill the team? Jason Bay was the only one, and it's not like we were winning games WITH him. We're much better off with McCutchen, Walker, Tabata, Alvarez, Jones, than we'd be right now with Bay. This team was losing a ton of games regardless who was the manager over the past three years. Why? Because they had no pitching, no matter what. Not because they traded mediocre players.

The issue is not with trading away talent as the did that before Russel (as steelcurtain said) the issue is that the team's record regressed each year under Russell. In 2007 before Russel they finished 68-94, in 2008 with Russell they went 67-95 then 62-99 and finally 57-103. The team actually got worse by 10 games under Russell, that is why he was fired.

I think Peter Angelos will only give Andy MacPhail a year to 18 months with Showalter to turn things around or MacPhail will be the next one out.

The only other manager in the Pirates' 124-season history with so many losses in so few seasons was Fred Haney, who was 163-299 from 1953-55.
Pittsburgh's payroll was a big league-low $35 million at the start of the season.

The marlins have to make a good decision on their next manager, so much young talent is there
