Re: Managers: Who's in?/Who's out?
The Pirates had hired Clint Hurdle to be their manager for 2011. The deal is reported to be 3 years according to Ken Rosenthal. Also, John Heyman suggests that the finalists for the Mets managerial role will be Terry Collins, Bob Melvin, and possibly Chip Hale.Comment

Re: Managers: Who's in?/Who's out?
Oh man, I love the hire. Did exactly what I wanted them to do, bringing in a guy with a proven track record of bringing along young talent. He should do wonders for all of our talented young hitters.
I approve of yet another move, Mr. Huntington.Comment

Re: Managers: Who's in?/Who's out?
From Yahoo.com:
NEW YORK (AP)—Terry Collins is a major league manager once again, hired by the New York Mets to help revitalize a franchise that has struggled on the field and at the gate.
A person with knowledge of the situation told The Associated Press of the hire on condition of anonymity Sunday because the two sides were still working out terms of the contract. The person said an announcement is expected early in the week.
Collins was chosen over a group of finalists that included Wally Backman, Chip Hale and Bob Melvin. He takes over for Jerry Manuel, who was fired along with general manager Omar Minaya in a restructuring of the front office following another dismal seasonMLB: New York Mets

I'm a little surprised by that. The sports talk radio around here was that it would definitely be Melvin.NBA: New York Knicks

I really don't understand the Collins hire. I have a feeling it's going to be very similar to the Art Howe tenure except he'll probably have a slightly better record.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

St.Louis: Tony LaRussa has not decided whether or not to return in 2011
Texas: Ron Washington's contract expires after Rangers season ends
Will be a lot of new faces at the helm of teams next season. Ot will be interesting to see how many first-time managers are named and how many are recycled to new teams.
Joe Girardi (NYY), Dusty Baker (Cin), Ron Washington (Tx), and Tony LaRussa (STL) all re-signed with their teams.
Kirk Gibson (Az), Mike Quade (Cubs), and Edwin Rodriguez (Fla) all had the "interim" tag removed and will stay on as managers of their teams.
John Farrell (Tor) and Ron Roenicke (Mil) join Don Mattingly (LAD) as the rookie managers class of 2011.
Terry Collins (NYM), Fredi Gonzalez (Atl), Eric Wedge (Sea), and Clint Hurdle (Pit) are the "old faces in new places" as Gonzalez, Wedge, and Hurdle get their second chances as big league managers while Collins gets his third.
Add in Buck Showalter (Bal) and Ned Yost (KC), who took over for their teams full time during the 2010 season and there will be 12 new managers in MLB dugouts on opening day 2011 that were not there on opening day 2010.Comment
