Okay, I finally can agree with all you Dusty bashers. Just dumb to pitch to Ivan Rodriguez with 2 out and first base open with the go ahead run in scoring position. The man has been on fire the whole post season.

Cubs are in serious trouble if they continue on this path and blow this game. With the two pitchers we got going in games 4 and 5, this series may end in Florida. Cubs need to step it up and play hungry.

This is Dusty. He rolls the dice. He also called that hit and run with Glanville, a guy with one hit in his career against Looper. You gotta take the good with the bad when dealing with Dusty. He makes mistakes, but he seems to make more good decisions than bad. Bottom line, we're two games away from the World Series, just be thankful!

Well, not that I considered Borowski all that great a closer. But if we learned anything in this series ... he should not pitch to a single batter again in it ...

Give me a break, no pitcher is perfect

Borowski comes in with a runner on 2nd and loses the save by giving up a RBI single to Hollandsworth (a former RoY) after a fierce battle.

Hardly a reason he to say "he should not pitch to a single batter again".

This was not a pampered closer situtation like Gagne always gets, coming in to start the 9th with nobody on. The only closers nowadays that get tossed into a mess like Joe did are Rivera &amp; Smoltz, pretty fine company if you ask me.

Sweaty Joe gave them them 2 scoreless innings after that, when Dusty had boxed himself in and could not do any more double-switches. I think Borowski did great and was a big part of the victory

      <hr /></blockquote><font class="post">

Hmm ... hindsight is a beautiful thing, isn't it?? Pretty easy to throw this one back at me now that you know Joe didn't give up anymore runs. I knew I should have taken care of this last night to avoid the inevitable flame (actually, I'm surpised only one gave into the temptation. I gave up an easy one here ). But ... it was after midnight and I was tired.

Alright! Alright! I concede ... I overreacted. Had to check my notes. I thought Borowski had a worse Game 1 than he did. And he did pitch a solid couple innings in Game 3 after I made this post.

Though, Joe is anything but a dominating closer, and I would certainly not put him in the same company as Rivera or Smoltz (when healthy). I'm greatful that Joe has done the fine job he has for us, but he has a tendency to give up a hit/walk or two before closing the door. But I will admit, even when he does get himself into trouble (which he does more often than I'd like) he pitches out of it more often than not.

I respectfully rescind my comments. I should have been more patient. My bad ...

I wasn't trying to flame you, I was just trying to point out that Joe came in to a very difficult situation.

I was comparing the situation he faced (tying run on 2nd in the 8th) to situations that Rivera &amp; Smoltz are called on to face. It is asking alot of Borowski but Dusty obviously has confidence in him.

Borowski scares the crap out of me too, he is not in the Rivera/Smoltz class because he does not have dominating stuff. But he does have a lot of guts and last night came in to a situation that Gagne rarely, if ever, had to face.

Man that Cubs bullpen nearly coughed up the game. That pen may be the downfall of the Cubbies. Luckily tho they got some calls and came back to win the game!

                        GO CUBS!

BTW I think Clement will buck up and pitch well today.
