Re: Epstein to Cubs?
I had no idea how bad Eptstein is with signings. 36 million to Lugo? 22 million for Renteria to play 1 season in Boston? And those might not even be the worst.
I thought Dombrowski dropped the ball with Bonderman/Robertston/Willis, etc. wow.JayElectronicaBluElzhi2PacTheNotoriousB.I.G.ReksSc arfaceFashawnJeruThaDamajaComment

Re: Epstein to Cubs?
I'll take him any day of the week.
Although for the Cubs, the biggest issue is going to be Ricketts willingness to allow Epstein or whatever GM comes in to actually spend the money they have available.
Whoever comes in, has to realize this team isn't going to be reconstructed in one year, and not to spend all their chips this off season just because it's available.Comment

90, 89, 95 (W), 95 (W) 96 (D ,WS) 86, 95(W), 98( W, WS), 95(W), 93( I forget if he started in 2002 or 2003)
Those are his teams Win totals. Yeah I'll take his "bad spending" on the north side.Comment

Also won 2 World Series' in the past 10 years. No other GM can say that.

I hope he takes the offer and does well there. No fan base should have to wait 103 years to see their team win another championship.Comment

Never understood these psychos who have amazing positions and unbelievable legacies already willingly leave because they "want new challenges" Mind-boggling to me. Gotta be something else that forced him to leave, because I'm not sure I can ever buy that thought process.Comment

Re: Epstein to Cubs?
I hope for the Cubs sake Theo is being left with a solid nucleus of superstars like Pedro and Manny brought in by the previous regime. He can then find a pal for them (Ortiz) and accidently strike baseball gold.

Then, when he gets impatient and petulant after a few years, he can take the late fall and early winter off, and the boss he was impatient and petulant about can pull the trigger on a deal like Hanley Ramirez for Josh Beckett and Mike Lowell (WS MVP).

When he comes back, he can make monumental moves similar to Wily Mo Pena for Bronson Arroyo.

The Red Sox' success in the past decade has been in spite of not because of Theo Epstein. He has consistently coveted the wrong players and traded the wrong ones (David Murphy, Arroyo, Shopach, Masterson). I don't blame him for the whole organization's focus on TV ratings, but his one early strength seemed to be in getting good "clubhouse" guys like Millar and Ortiz and having awesome chemistry on the team, and he has for whatever let that value go in exchange for passionless automatons like JD Drew and Adrian Gonzalez and immature selfish players like Lackey.

Angry Sox fan here. Glad to see him go, anywhere.Last edited by 8iron; 10-12-2011, 10:19 AM.Now playing
