    Re: Epstein to Cubs?

Maybe it's because I'm so extremely over passionate about Cubs baseball, but I don't think I've ever came away so hopeful and excited for the future than I have after that press conference.

He just made me want to believe in him and his team going forward and made feel like in a few years I'm going to be rooting for the Yankees of the NL. (Has it's pros and cons)

Was all about baseball, all about improving and what needs to be done to be a contender. Like SidVish said, no cliche remarks about all the bull crap from the past, which was such a relief. He made me feel like his heart is genuinely in this thing and wants to do what he was to do to succeed. For someone who's heart bleeds Cubbie blue, that spoke volumes. I want it to become an honor for a player to put on a Cubs jersey, because that's the same pedestal I put this team on as a fan.

Also, I have NO idea what "The Cubs Way" is going to be or what it entails but I damn sure can't wait to find out. I'll give an update after my Theo man crush settles down a little, see if I still feel that same excitement. I probably will lol

        Re: Epstein to Cubs?

WOW! Im sorry I missed this thread! 11 pages already, Im a bit late but here is my 2 cents coming from a 20+ yr Cub fan.....

I am 36 yrs old. I have lived in Chicago my whole life (minus my 8 yrs in the Army) I have been a die hard Cubs fan for over 20 yrs (was a White Sox fan as a teen). I have seen good and bad players come and go.
The Cubs are known for contracting players post-prime or pre-prime and NOT contracting them in mid-prime.

The only thing that bringing Theo to the Cubs does, is give Cub fans more of what theyve been feeding off of their entire lives... "HOPE".
Hope is a very dangerous thing. It blinds you from reality, forgives inefficiencies and il-prepares you for disappointment.

As far as trades are concerned, Zambrano to FLA is definitely a major possibility. Getting 1 or 2 prospects for him is most likely. Sorriano to the AL is also a good bet, though Im not sure who would take him, maybe SEA. They tend to like Cubbie trash.... (Milton Bradley... WHAT?!) But it appears Theo wants to keep him. I doubt Marmol would be traded unless the Cubs can secure Heath Bell, and even then Im not sure too many teams would want Marmol.

I think Soto is good trade bait and so is Castro if you can get good prospects for him.

In reality, the Cubs need to erase the chalkboard COMPLETELY and rebuild. I dont know if they will, but if they start here, they could have a decent team.

And Theo should call Chip Foose and have him do a complete OverHaulin on the bullpen!

All in all, Theo has his work cut out for him. Im not sure getting the GM and Pres of Player Scouting from SD was the best move, but we'll just have to wait and see.

I wish the Cubs would win the WS, but I have given up all hope!
If you need to know why, read my previous quote about "hope"!

Trading Castro would be utterly stupid. Especially for prospects. I mean the dude is what 21 years. He basically is prospect and a damn fine one at that, not to mention he plays a position where quality players are scarce at the moment.

So you wouldnt trade Castro for Jose Reyes or for David Freese?

Reyes is a FA last I checked. And don't be fooled by this post-season, Freese is a nice player but no way I'd trade Castro for him. If you want to Re-Build, They should rebuild around Castro, He has tremendous upside. He's only 21! Just imagine what kind of player he can be when he develops more power and more experience.

Maybe you didnt understand my point. My point is that you cant build a team around one player, not to mention one player with 30 errors and only 10 HRs. If the Cubs could trade Castro for a good 3B & a good 2B, they would be fools not to. OK so Castro had 200 hits! Woohoo! He also had less than 100 Runs and less than 70 RBIs, so those 200 hits did absolutely nothing!

I would not keep Castro if it meant that I would suffer at 2nd & 3rd.
Youre not gonna get rid of Sorriano, your not gonna get Fielder or Pujols, The pitching staff is horrendous and they have no one that can hit 30+ HRs other than Pena... MAYBE. Yet you guys wanna keep 1 error ridden player because he has "potential"?

Thats the sort of thinking that has kept the Cubs in the bottom of the standings over the last few years... or better yet, last few decades!

                  Re: Epstein to Cubs?

I would take Castro over Freese in a heartbeat personally. People need to remember this guy is barely over the age of 20 whereas Freese is already 28. People need to stop expecting him to perform like an established veteran. He's gonna have his bumps in the road, like all young players do.

No ones asking to build a team around one player. But at the same why would you trade one of the best young players in the MLB just to be doing it? That makes no sense whatsoever.

Im telling you, dont be surprised when Castro gets traded, dont be surprised when he gets traded to the Red Sox, and dont be surprised when we get about 3 or 4 players for him. When he does, I'll be sure not to say I told you so.

That sort of thinking towards Castro is a Jim Hendry way of thinking!

He is ONE player! One player out of 25. He isnt Micheal Jordan, He isnt Ryne Sandberg and He isnt Walter Payton. He's one player who may or may not be any good in the years to come. Dont be wooed in by his age and his "potential" Every player has "potential" its whether or not they live up to it, "Todd Van Poppel"!

Boston and Chicago aren't making any deals anytime soon. I can guarantee you that scenario you just presented won't happen.

The Cubs & Red Sox have had a great working relationship for many years.

Yeah, the Cubs are going to trade a 21 year old phenom who just lead the league in hits and is the future of their franchise.

You are out of your damn mind.
