Re: The Hot Stove League Thread
Not a Bad move. Especially when he gets in his late 30's with the DH.
Can't blame the Cardinals for not going that high, but GLAD he's out of the NL Central!Wolverines Packers Cubs Celtics

Re: The Hot Stove League Thread
Despite saying he wanted to be a Cardinal for life, Pujols shows his true colors that it's all about the money. The Cardinals made a respectable offer, and personally I'm glad they're not stuck with a 10 year contract for him.Comment

Damn. That's a lot of money and years for someone in the 30s.

Re: The Hot Stove League Thread
I hear that was the biggest thing Pujols wanted from any deal. Everyone was offering comparable money. The Marlins definitely didn't offer a full no-trade and Pujols immediately turned down their offer."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

With the Cardinals, he had 10 and 5 rights so he automatically had a no trade clause.Comment

Pujols to the Angels.

Re: The Hot Stove League Thread
No opt out. Full no trade clause. At least $250 million.
lol Angels
Edit: This is just like the Rangers signing of A Rod. Except A Rod was a young SS just entering his prime, and the Rangers had an opportunity to trade him.Last edited by Travis40; 12-08-2011, 10:43 AM.Comment

Re: The Hot Stove League Thread
At the time of that contract, A-Rod was the best player in the game offensively...and no slouch on defense...moved positions for the club....consistently hitting for average and HR's(a ton!....leading the league 4 out of the previous 5 or 6 years I believe).
I wonder if we'll be saying the same thing in 5 years about Albert and some other star player.
