@JonHeymanCBS: montero is traded for pineda

Plenty of fans have been all prissy about Jesus and how we should hang on to him and all. I feel that we always have enough bats and have been desperately in the need of pitching. With that being said, I like this deal.

Young pitcher with tons of upside. 23 years young, Lord this is a deal, folks!

Poor Montero...his numbers are going to be killed by Safeco.

        Pineda traded?

Why would Seattle trade a guy who's going to win 10 Cy Youngs and average an ERA of 0.33 as a starter for the next decade? #OldOSJokes

The Mariners and Yankees have agreed to a trade that will send Michael Pineda to the Bronx in exchange for Jesus Montero, reports Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com. The trade involves more than just those two players, Heyman adds (both links via Twitter).

Snap reaction is that I f'ing hate this trade. Unless Montero somehow turns into a decent catcher, I don't know man ... 1-2 punch of Felix and Pineda was amazing.

WTF... 6:51pm: The deal is Pineda and Jose Campos for Montero and Hector Noesi, a source tells MLB.com's Greg Johns (Twitter link).

I can't believe we had to add campos to get montero.

                I miss that guy.

Risky trades for both sides, it will be interesting to see how each player pans out. Has Montero improved at catcher or he is going to DH/1B with Seattle?

If we wanted Montero why the hell didn't we just trade Cliff Lee to the Yankees instead of getting Smoak? Good lord this is aggravating

He's better than Jaso/olivo. But if they plan to 1b/dh him, that means no Prince.

My problem is the Yankees offered him for Clff Lee! if we wanted Montero that bad why weren't we on it 2 years ago.

I wonder if the mariners know something I don't. Doubtful

I think they wanted smoak more than montero back then.. I'm not that mad, technically we got Smoak/Montero for Pineda and Campos since the prospects we traded to Philly aren't going to be anything.

Think this closes the book on Fielder too.. not enough room at 1B/DH with Montero/Smoak/Carp. I hope Montero can become a C, can't be any worse than watching Olivo try and catch the ball.

I'm pretty sure he never caught with the Yankees. They just signed Russel Martin to an extension so they were planning on making Montero the full-time DH. He is definitely nothing special behind the plate.

Great trade for the Yankees. Gotta stock up that rotation.

So... what's to stop the Yankees from throwing cash at Fielder to DH now?

200 Mil for a DH. Are the Yankees even that nuts?

Plus I don't think he wants to go there anyway.

Scott Boras is involved, so that's not an issue
