I think it's ridiculous but what can MLB do? These guys slip through with this kind of stuff all the time. Back in 2007 or 2008, the Padres signed a shortstop going by the name Alvaro Aristy who turned out to be Jorge Guzman (and a couple of years older), and the ironic thing was the real Alvaro Aristy was caught earlier using someone elses name.

Makes me think Rymer Liriano, Yoan Alcantara, Adys Portillo, Jonathan Galvez, and Edinson Rincon are all frauds. It's only a matter of time.
I wish there could be something in the contract of an International signing that says, "If you are lying about who you are and what your true age is, you will pay back the monetary value of this contract in it's entirety and face criminal charges."

    Maybe there already is?

Might seem extreme, but when you think about it, it's really ridiculous.

Yep. It is really too bad, because you don't know who is legit.

I do give him credit for picking the name Fausto. That's pretty cool...

In all seriousness, the Indians sent him down to rookie ball 2 years ago to fix him because he was a 26 year old who couldn't get his head right. They were willing to take a bet on a guy who was almost a cy young pitcher when he first came up, pay him 7 million dollars on the bet that he is entering his prime.

Now he is a 7 million dollar waste of money on an over the hill pitcher...unreal.

Hmmm....now that I think about it, Dustin Pedroia sounds kinda suspicious.

You can waiver your suspicious because he was drafted out college I think.

According to this yahoo! article, it's hard to believe how often this happens. Oh boy.

Hate to tell you, but that door has been closed for a while

Hell, I'm not sure that door was ever open to begin with

I don't think that's the case at all. I think that Fielder needed the Rangers more than the Rangers needed him. Money isn't the problem right now; ownership has the money both from personal and team business ventures to make it work. The problem twofold with length of contract and a number of players coming up for free agency.

The ball is in his court, and if he thinks that Washington can get him to the top (and they very well could in a few years), then hats off to him. It's really his decision to make now.

By the way, love to you

They play in Kissimmee, which isn't that far from Lakeland.

Can't remember the last time such a "big fish" has gone unsigned through mid-January.

There's something up. Or wrong. Or both.
