This is great! Fielder doesn't go to the Nationals, AND he is out of the National league altogether.
With Pujols and Fielder both moving to the AL that alone gives my aging Philly team longevity!Originally posted by Edmund BurkeAll that is needed for the triumph of evil, is for good men to do nothing.Comment

Well Cabrera's HR totals increased when he came to Detroit from Florida. And Fielder has more power than Cabrera ever did. And he will still play plenty of games in hitter friendly ball parks around the American League.
He will still hit his homers. Cabrera regularly hits HR at Comerica where nearly nobody else does (Deep Left Center, Center, Right Center). Fielder I think has more raw power than Cabrera does.
If you're trying to make the assumption that Fielder can't hit balls deep enough at Comerica I just don't buy it. He has as much power as any hitter in baseball. And Comerica isn't on the level of Petco Park where hitters just go to die. Even Gonzalez hit 40 in San Diego. I think Prince will hit around 35.

Yeah, I'm just messing with you.
I do agree, though. Prince Fielder is obviously a powerful player and you bring up an excellent point about the other smaller AL Parks.
Without looking it up, I feel like the NL has more of the larger parks that fly balls go to die."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. Re: The Hot Stove League Thread
I saw the news of the Fielder signing before I went to bed last night....WOW! It'll be interesting to see how his numbers look in Comerica. I bet if they dip substantially that they'll move the fences in substantially. Either way this is a big signing for the Tigers.
In other news, nice potential signing by the Jays with the acquisition of Francisco Cordero pending a physical. The Jays now have a much more well defined bullpen though a much older one too. I have a feeling that all these old bullpen arms being added this year is just a stopgap for '13 when they'll pick up younger bulpen guys/call up their own pitchers for next year. At the very least the Jays have guys with well defined roles and Cordero will be a good setup man or closer if Santos somehow bombs.
Also they signed Brandon Morrow to a 3 year 20 Mil deal which is economically sound while keeping him in Toronto's control for a while.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

They won't move the fences in. Comerica ranks in the top 10 in park factors, better than Miller Park and Citizens Bank Park. It's not that bad of a place to hit. I don't get why people think his numbers will fall off severely. Good hitters will hit regardless. Plus, a 3 game series in New York once a year is great for HR numbers too. Every time Detroit goes to New York, it seems like Cabrera hits 3 or 4. Makes up for any power you lose in Comerica. It all balances out after 162 games.
I think it's funny how the ESPN ticker keeps showing "No LHH has ever hit more than 14 homeruns in Comerica Park" like it's hell for left handers. Nobody has ever hit more than 14 because the Tigers have never had a good left handed hitter. Lol. Other than Granderson, who I bet did hit 14 which is on pace with his power, notable LH's the Tigers have had were a 56 year old Sean Casey, Bobby Higginson, and Carlos Pena before he was any good. Not the best hitters. Tiger fans have been wanting a left handed power bat for more than a decade, they been right handed heavy forever.JayElectronicaBluElzhi2PacTheNotoriousB.I.G.ReksSc arfaceFashawnJeruThaDamajaComment

Still though, should the ball fly fairly similar to how it does at Miller, it looks like he'd have around 12 fewer homeruns.Comment

There were like 7 to the centerfield region at miller park that were HR's that weren't even to the warning track at Comerica.Comment
