Re: The Hot Stove League Thread
Apparently Cespdes got his VISA too. Waiting on MLB to declare him Free Agency.
There's a 99.9% chance he winds up in Miami I think. They said they will outbid anybody and I believe them. How does their OF look with him in Center? Does Bonifacio play 2nd base? Infante becomes utility man?
A week ago several insiders had Cubs the favorite with the Marlins be #2. It's another thing to say and actually do it. Cubs have deep pockets as well. He fits what the Cubs want. And the Cubs would have a nice young OF on their hands if they land him.Wolverines Packers Cubs Celtics

Ya, that makes more sense (although those Twins were a good team...if not for Sandy they win that WS)."People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring." - Rogers HornsbyComment

Can't take credit for this (got it off another board I read), but it made me laugh:
"I gotta hand it to Theo Epstein. Since he took over the Cubs, they've gotten rid of Albert Pujols, Prince Fielder, and probably two months of Ryan Braun. If you can't raise the bar, lower the ceiling.""People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. Re: The Hot Stove League Thread
This is a faulty assumption, btw. I doubt Prince hits 50, but Miller Park was only marginally more hitter-friendly than Comerica last year, and the myth of Comerica's right field being hard to hit homeruns to is just that. The Tigers just haven't had a lefty with the power/consistency like Prince. Essentially all of the Tigers sluggers over the years have been righties.Comment

Re: The Hot Stove League Thread
Well Cabrera's HR totals increased when he came to Detroit from Florida. And Fielder has more power than Cabrera ever did. And he will still play plenty of games in hitter friendly ball parks around the American League.
He will still hit his homers. Cabrera regularly hits HR at Comerica where nearly nobody else does (Deep Left Center, Center, Right Center). Fielder I think has more raw power than Cabrera does.
If you're trying to make the assumption that Fielder can't hit balls deep enough at Comerica I just don't buy it. He has as much power as any hitter in baseball. And Comerica isn't on the level of Petco Park where hitters just go to die. Even Gonzalez hit 40 in San Diego. I think Prince will hit around 35.JayElectronicaBluElzhi2PacTheNotoriousB.I.G.ReksSc arfaceFashawnJeruThaDamajaComment

That display looks nuts. What's the atmosphere (wind, humidity etc.) at Comerica generally.Comment

Re: The Hot Stove League Thread
It plays pretty fair. There's no crazy wind streams that send balls out or cuts them down. Pretty hot and miserable in the summer. Ball travels fine, especially off the bat of somebody like Fielder. A little tougher to clear the fences in April with that cold weather. It's a pitchers park but not a huge one. Just looking at how Cabrera can put up numbers in the so called pitchers park gives me every reason to believe Fielder can.JayElectronicaBluElzhi2PacTheNotoriousB.I.G.ReksSc arfaceFashawnJeruThaDamajaComment

The OF would be pretty solid from a hitting perspective, LoMo, Cespedes, Stanton.
I too personally think he'll end up in Miami given the Marlins willingness to pay him apparently along with the hispanic connection with Hanley, Reyes, Guillen, etc.Saints, LSU, Seminoles, Pelicans, Marlins, LightningComment

But where's Bonifacio? He hit .300, .360 OBP, 40 stolen bases...kind of hard to NOT give him a starting job? I think he earned oneJayElectronicaBluElzhi2PacTheNotoriousB.I.G.ReksSc arfaceFashawnJeruThaDamajaComment

Re: The Hot Stove League Thread
Do you think if he signs in Miami he'll begin the year in the minors? That was something that worried me about the Detroit speculation, spending that kinda cash on an unproven 26 yr old (supposedly) to learn in the minors. It's burgundy flags to me.Wolverines Wings Same Old Lions Tigers Pistons Erika ChristensenComment
