    2011 Awards Thread

Thought I'd get a thread going on this. Today the ROY was announced in each league:

    AL - Jeremy Hellickson, TB
    NL - Craig Kimbrel, ATL

No big surprises here...they both deserved it.

Pleasantly surprised that voters weren't sucked in by Trumbo's RBIs or Nova's W-L record. Hellickson wouldn't have won 10 years ago.

Tom Verducci made that point the other day. He said 10 years ago Mark Trumbo would be a shoe in with 29 homers/89 RBI's, but his .291 OBP kills him with today's voter. Hellickson pitched in the AL East and just put up great numbers all across the board. Progress is being made with these things.

I was hoping Pineda would steal it, but Hellickson was a good choice.

              Voters were unanimous on Kimbrel.

EDIT: Just heard that it was the first unanimous vote for a pitcher... ever!

                  No arguments here.

I just wish Brett Lawrie hadn't suffered his injury in Vegas as he would've been called up earlier and probably had enough ABs to qualify. It'd make for an interesting choice for the voters.

Tomorrow is the Cy Young. Should be a tight race in the AL....I think Kershaw should win in the NL.

That has to be sarcasm...Verlander should be unanimous in the AL and Kershaw should nip Halladay in the NL.

Of no surprise to anyone, Verlander takes the AL Cy Young. 3 for 3 so far for e writers IMO...

Is the NL tomorrow? I thought it was today too. I was so mad they kept talking about Verlander and not who won in the NL. I then I was like...oh.

                              Your Manager of Year awards:

                              American League - Joe Maddon
                              National League - Kirk Gibson

Hard to argue with those...so far so good.
