    Re: Trade Deadline Thread

I think the Dodgers offer includes Gould/Winthrow or Miller.

I think LA gets Dempster and possibly Headley to play 3B. I don't see LA trading Zach Lee or Chris Reed, but Ned Colletti is a ****** so who knows.

Ken Rosenthal tweeted something among the lines of that the Dodgers aren't willing to part ways with Lee for a rental like Dempster.

If the Marlins trade for Crawford, part of me thinks it will be an attempt to slash payroll.
Trade for Crawford with Boston footing most of the bill for him, then trade Crawford somewhere else, free up money.
Move Carlos Lee, free up some more money.
Then go on a shopping spree in hopes of a 3rd World Series title, and if they win, a mass firesale ala 1998! Hooray!

BREAKING: Source tells http://FOXSports.com #Rockies close to sending Jeremy Guthrie to #Royals for Jonathan Sanchez.

Guthrie should be happy that he doesn't have to pitch at Coors anymore if the deal goes through.

What? No comment on a TEN PLAYER TRADE?!

              Oh well....

The Blue Jays and Astros have hooked up on a ten player deal

              Jays get:

              J.A. Happ
              Brandon Lyon
              David Carpenter

              Astros get

              Ben Francisco
              Francisco Cordero (YAY HE'S GONE!)
              Carlos Perez

              Minor league prospects

              Asher Wojiechowski,
              Joe Musgrave,
              David Rollins,

and a player to be named later

It seems like a lot to give up but it isn't as most of those guys are just spare parts. Happ may not look like he's having a very good season this year but he's been let down by bad run support. I think he'll have a bounce back year in T.O. next year as I think he's still under contract. Lyon and Carpenter are at least dependable relief guys that will put less strain on an already overtaxed bullpen.

EDIT: Well least someone commented while I was typing LOL

The Rockies trade is somewhat confusing considering they're getting someone thats going to be a Free Agent in 2013. I would have liked low end prospects instead since the season is already over and the Rockies farm system is fairly garbage anymore despite the ownership talking about "Home grown talent!".

Oh well, atleast Sanchez is left handed.

Carlos Lee is in the last year of his contract, most of which the Astros are paying.

Ehh that's unlikely if the Marlins were to cut payroll they'd just trade Hanley straight up for prospects and they'd be making more of their higher paid guys available and apparently Buerhle/Reyes are not available.

Well it's a trade for relievers and a once-highly - touted starter and it's Toronto. Meh

Well said starter has 13 quality starts (6 innings allowing 3 runs or less) so it's not like he's complete trash.

You do make a point though as Alex Anthopoulos admitted it was just a depth deal for the rest of the year and in the years to come.

That trade doesn't strike me as being a "blockbuster" trade though. I mean, the best player in that deal is a borderline 5th starter.
