Foulke is a very good closer, but he ain't Rivera. To compare him to arguably the greatest closer of all time (definitely the greatest closer in postseason history) is a little off base. Plus, he's going back to Oakland anyways.

You and others in this thread seem to forget who won the Cy Young last year with 55 saves, ERIC GAGNE. Anyone who wants to claim Mariano Rivera is a better closer, be my guest, but you won't be telling the truth.

I dont think the Sox have that great a staff. Pedro can barely go 7 innings anymore without falling apart and that number will start to decrease as the season wears him down. Also while Schilling is very good, he is also very old and could potentially have arm trouble. If he doesnt though it was a fantastic pickup. Lowe is good, I'd take Vazquez first but he is good. and I doubt this Wakefeild crap will continue next year.
Mussina - Schilling
Pettite - Pedro
Vazquez - Lowe
Jose C. - Wakefeild
Leiber - ???
I also want the Yanks to get Wells back. assurance in case Leiber isnt healthy enough. Not for Anything, Contreras could hang in the pen a while if Colon wanted to play in pinstripes. Of course with all of that and Sheffeild they would have a payroll of about 300 million.

Good grief, where do you Yankees fans get off? No offense or anything, but it gets REALLY annoying. If yankees fans weren't so intolerable, I might keep the griping down to a minimum. Why can't you people just accept the truths that are staring you in the freaking face? Top 5 Starting Pitchers (active only) in Baseball:
Curt Schilling
Randy Johnson
Pedro Martinez (speak to the 2.22 ERA)
Kerry Wood
Mark Prior
anyone who would deny this is a complete and total idiot. Only after Prior do you get to even CONSIDER Mussina, and to say that he was equal to Schilling, regardless of Schilling's age, is absolutely ludicrous. Once mikey can maintain a lower ERA and get over 300 strikeouts in one year, THEN you can start comparing. Otherwise:

That's about all I've got to say on those matters.

I guess luck was on the Yankees side today.....
