Foulke is a very good closer, but he ain't Rivera. To compare him to arguably the greatest closer of all time (definitely the greatest closer in postseason history) is a little off base. Plus, he's going back to Oakland anyways.

You and others in this thread seem to forget who won the Cy Young last year with 55 saves, ERIC GAGNE. Anyone who wants to claim Mariano Rivera is a better closer, be my guest, but you won't be telling the truth.

I dont think the Sox have that great a staff. Pedro can barely go 7 innings anymore without falling apart and that number will start to decrease as the season wears him down. Also while Schilling is very good, he is also very old and could potentially have arm trouble. If he doesnt though it was a fantastic pickup. Lowe is good, I'd take Vazquez first but he is good. and I doubt this Wakefeild crap will continue next year.

    Mussina - Schilling
    Pettite - Pedro
    Vazquez - Lowe
    Jose C. - Wakefeild
    Leiber - ???
I also want the Yanks to get Wells back. assurance in case Leiber isnt healthy enough. Not for Anything, Contreras could hang in the pen a while if Colon wanted to play in pinstripes. Of course with all of that and Sheffeild they would have a payroll of about 300 million.

Good grief, where do you Yankees fans get off? No offense or anything, but it gets REALLY annoying. If yankees fans weren't so intolerable, I might keep the griping down to a minimum. Why can't you people just accept the truths that are staring you in the freaking face? Top 5 Starting Pitchers (active only) in Baseball:

    Curt Schilling
    Randy Johnson
Pedro Martinez (speak to the 2.22 ERA)
    Kerry Wood
    Mark Prior

anyone who would deny this is a complete and total idiot. Only after Prior do you get to even CONSIDER Mussina, and to say that he was equal to Schilling, regardless of Schilling's age, is absolutely ludicrous. Once mikey can maintain a lower ERA and get over 300 strikeouts in one year, THEN you can start comparing. Otherwise: also, to say that Pettitte, the farthest thing from consistant, is equal to Pedro? I believe the ERA speaks for itself in this case. Thank you, buhbye. Pedro wins no contest. As for your observation of Wakefield, it too is false, as it would be easier (and more accurate) to compare him to Pettitte, all in all. As for Vasquez, you still think there's no chance you won't get him, when all signs are pointing at the fact that if the yanks do try to get him, it will be the hardest earned acquisition of the off season. Even then, I have to agree that he'd do better off than Lowe. As I've said many times before, GOOD LUCK getting Javier. You'll need it.

That's about all I've got to say on those matters.

one problem if the yanks don't sign Pettite is that they will have like no left hander. They already got Vazquez, so here is their projected lineup.

      Moose
      Pettite????????????????????
      Colon???????????????????????
      Vazquez
      Lieber
      Contreras

my guess is that Lieber will probably go as a long inning releif man.
Just wait till Arsenal moves into Emirates Stadium.

Okay Vazquez, Moose, Leiber, and Contreras are our starters right now. Pettite mustt sign!! I think the Yankees will hook him for three years at 45 million dollars. Right now I doubt he will bolt if he doesnt get that 4th year. He will get double what the Astros can offer and with the Yanksees, he always has october baseball to look foreward to (Not gonna happen in Houston).

As for the other positions: Boone gets another chance at 3rd, same for Soriano at 2nd. Posada is behind the plate, Jeter at short with Giambi and his [censored you naughty boy] up knee at DH. The next aquisition will be JT Snow to cover first! Sheffeild in right, Matsui in Center, and Bernie in Left. I think Bernie is on his last licks right now and unless Giambi gets healthy(and off the DH), Bernies number might
be up in the Bronx But for this year the Yankees batting lineup is solid 1-8 with Boone trying to keep up in the nine hole.

Yankees have a much better rotation than the Sox as well. Once again Pettite, Moose, Vazquez, Contreras, and Leiber outweigh Pedro, Shcilling, Lowe, Wakefeild, and ???. Unless that last guy is Colon then Boston is at a disadvantage. Also in the bullpen the Yankees have Quantril, Gordon, Karsay, DePaula, White, Heredia, and MO!

I'm dying for the Redsox to snatch up A-Rod. They will have to get rid of Manny (and Nomar, not neccesarily in the same deal) to get the MVP. After that Walker will be gone, and they wont be able to pay people like varitek. If they get Arod, there offense will suffer severely.

GOOD LUCK BOSTON!! You're gonna need it

You guys would rather have Petitte in the fold for a huge contract rather then trading Weaver to the Dodgers for Kevin Brown?

Hmm well Petitte has more yrs left in him but then that means putting Weaver back in the bullpen where he'll most likely blow leads left right and center. Hrm well I guess i'd take that over a couple yrs with a great pitcher like Brownie.
