Update: Twins sign Shannon Stewart to 3 year contract worth $18M

They also offered salary arbitration to Eddie Guardado, meaning they won't have to wait until May 1 to negotiate with him. Whether he accepts or declines arbitration, the Twins can negotiate with him until Jan. 8. Guardado has until Dec. 19 to accept or decline arbitration. Things are looking up Twins fans!

well thats some good news(refering to the Stewart news), I think the twins need some more pitches now that eddie is gone(not official). Twins need some pitches. But I think Eddie was going to be to much. Who should the twins go after now. and bend over i thought you said I have no concept of what the twins would do. I knew they would get eddie back. but i am not here to argue. I hope the twins can get a power hitter and maybe a pitcher.

Does anyone know how much more money the twins have left?

            Re: TWINS

I was referring to you saying they could make more moves to get players if they still had Ortiz, but that would only hurt their chances of adding players. In fact, it would mean they would have to clear that much more payroll. Also, you said they need to resign Hocking and Reed, who are both pretty much worthless when you consider the other troubles they were facing this offseason.

I am very surprised they didn't resign Guardado. An article on The Star Tribune's web site said that the first contract offer (2 years $8M) was turned down because Eddie wanted this to be the last contract of his career. Then the Twins offered 3 years and $12M a year, but it was also turned down. The Twins last contract offer also had a club option for a fourth year, but apparently Guardado's agent is full of crap since he said the first offer just didn't have enough years.

                  Re: TWINS

Twins fans, don't panic. The Twins are having a great off-season. They have a differant system to work within than most teams, and they are doing well so far, with much of the off-season remaining.

The trade of AJ was a great move. Mauer is as good, if not better, defensively. He may not hit for the same average right away, but he'll strike out a lot less and get on base more. Milton was no factor in winning the division last year, so it's great to clear his money. Hawkins has been replaced already, either by Silva or Nathan, depending on how the closer situation shakes out. Eddie G. had guts and heart, but is not an elite closer, and should not be paid like one. We have a great chance to fill that role capably from within (Silva, Nathan, Jesse Crain) or to sign a free agent like Ugeth Urbina. Trading Jaque Jones is a must. We have players (Ryan, Cuddyer, Restovich) that are ready to step into the line-up, and his presence only ******s thier growth. He's a high strikeout player with only moderate power and a weak arm in the field. It's time to move him.

Twins fans get upset because they don't really know what we get in these trades. Nathan will be every bit the set-up man that Hawkins was, and maybe better. Boof Bonser is a former #1 pick that should be in the Twins rotation next season. Liriano is 21, lefthanded and throws 95mph. Silva is 24, has already spent more than a year in the big leagues, throws 94mph with a heavy sinker, and Punta can play both middle infield spots and has great speed. Yjose are great depth players and prospects. The Twins also have a phenom pitcher in JD Durbin, who should crack the starting 5 this season. We've got a great and deep farm system, and one of the best GMs in baseball.

Re-signing Hocking and Rick Reed would not only be stupid moves, but are absolutely not going to happen. Keep your eyes on the winter meetings coming up on Friday. Expect more moves by the Twins. Look for a veteran catcher to be signed, Jones to be traded, and another bullpen arm to be aquired.
