Buerhle has had pretty much the exact same stats every year for the past 12 years. You know what you're getting with him, and that's a VERY valuable and underrated thing nowadays, with injuries picking up.

Hanley had a .326 wOBA, 103 wRC+, nothing amazing but not exactly salary dump worthy.
Hanley had an OPS+ of 102 with the Marlins last season. I don't know how much he made last year but I read he's making 15 million this year and last year probably wasn't too far off. 15 million a year for a hitter that is 2% better than the average hitter is certainly salary dump worthy. 2011 he was 5% worse than the average hitter with a 95 OPS+. That is not worth that salary at all.

He was worth 3 WAR last season which is about worth ~15M, and based on his past pedigree, I don't think it was time to dump him yet, especially because 15 million doesn't get you what it used to. If they had kept him to a similar point in 2013 and THEN dumped him I would've completely understood, but why sell low on someone with Hanley's track record? As recently as 2010 he was a highly productive player.

Just reported, the Atlanta braves just traded Martin prado, Ahmed and 4 prospects to Arizona for Justin upton and Chris Johnson. Interesting.

I still have hope that Hanley can make the adjustments and get back to his old self. If he can, him and Kemp are probably the two most dynamic players in the NL which would be nice for the Dodgers

The only reason Hanley isn't the best player in the game is because of his head. If he gets his mind right, there's nothing that can stop him. He can do everything on the field.
