    Re: MLB Off-Topic 2013

Mickey is my favorite player of all time. My grandfather told me stories growing up, he's the reason I love the Yankees, and hearing about him more and more as I understood the game better made me love him even more. This news doesn't surprise me at all. I figure it's pretty common knowledge among people with common sense that competition breeds cheating, in any facet of life in any time period, the only thing changing being the ways people cheat. Let Barry in. Let Roger in, especially because we have nothing other than the word of a very shaky personal trainer on him anyway. Let A-Rod in. Let Manny in. Leave Sosa, McGwire, and Palmeiro out on the basis that they just weren't good enough. And move on. It's going to be a very empty Hall if we try to take out all of the "cheaters".

It sucks to see the back end of Roy Halladay's career being besieged by arm trouble and bad pitching. I hope he can turn it around to at least have a season or two of at least respectable pitching.

It's been 15 years since Kerry Wood struck out 20 Astros. And thankfully MLB has come to their senses on youtube and you can see the entire game if you want.

Epic day. Was an amazing display from such a young talent. Remember watching the replay during the rain delay the following day just as much lol

Matt Kemp gives a disabled young fan his hat, jersey, cleats, and an autographed baseball. Good stuff.

Personally, this should have its own thread. I mean, that is awesome of Kemp. Really awesome. One, just to run up after the game to sign a ball. And then give the kid his hat, jersey and shoes?
Loved hearing the what I assume mostly Giant fans left cheering Kemp on too.

Well it's a little dusty in my room all of a sudden, that was one of the greatest things in baseball i've ever seen.

I've always liked the Kemp has played, but I have tremendous respect for him now

Some of the breaking balls the Astros were swinging at were just ridiculous.

Matt Kemp makes it really hard to hate the Dodgers.

Makes me want to root for Kemp now. Great great gesture there.

@ken_rosenthal: Sources: #Cubs agree with Rizzo on 7-year, $41 million contract. Deal runs from 2013 through ’19.
Not a bad deal for the time being.

2 club options and escalators that make the potential value $73 million.

Still not a bad deal, considering the year he's having now. Even if he drops and keeps a batting average around .275 his slugging will be way up there, and he should have plenty of bombs. Smart deal by the Cubs.
