Re: MLB Off-Topic 2013
Just saw this on youtube, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mR3eK5gCChM
and holy cow, I didn't think it was THAT bad of a strike zone. But man...that has to be the most generous strike zone I have EVER seen, and probably ever will see. Were any players/coaches ejected?7 National Championships

That's a nice gesture on Bonds' part. I think if he was just a little more cuddly with the media that he wouldn't have received as HUGE a backlash as he did with the roids. Barry Bonds is a complicated guy in a lot of ways as i've heard of some good things he's done through the years but his personality has always gotten in the way.7 National Championships

More proof that Crush Davis is awesome:
Perhaps you've seen the shot of manager Buck Showalter, captured by FOX television's cameras, resting his cheek on his arm as he leaned on the dugout railing, a smile creasing his face. It's directly related to what happened after the error.
"I told J.J. (Hardy) when I walked over to short, I said, 'God, I can't believe I missed that ball,'" Davis recalled yesterday before batting practice. "It kind of took a high hop, the last hop, and I looked at J.J. and said, 'Well, I guess I'm going to have to hit another home run now.' Because of the first ball that kind of went under my glove, the one Cano hit his first at-bat, kind of the same thing."
Hardy relayed the story to Showalter before walking to the on-deck circle, just before Davis sent an Ivan Nova curveball over the out-of-town scoreboard and onto the flag court in right field for a two-run shot.Comment

I have an interesting story to tell about Yasiel Puig. I dont know how true this is but this is how it goes:
A few years ago (dont remember timeline) Yasiel Puig tried to sneak into America from Cuba via boat like how a lot of Cubans do it. One of the Coast Guard Cutters (my boats sister ship) ended up catching them and sending them back to Cuba. The crew talked to Yasiel and he said he was a really good baseball player. Naturally they didnt believe him but turns out hes pretty good. Just thought it was interesting.MLB: Texas Rangers

Re: MLB Off-Topic 2013
I have heard commentators mention that his first defection attempt was unsuccessful, but none of the details. I always assumed it was during a baseball tournament outside Cubs, but that's pretty interesting.Comment

Jose Fernandez also has similar interesting stories that are told during each of his starts.
He failed his first time getting shot at by officers, jailed like his 2nd and 3rd time. Then at 15 he organized another escape attempt, got on a boat with 30 others. A lady fell in during the trip, he jumped in the shark infested water to save her and turned out to be his mother. Eventually made it to Mexico and then to Tampa, took 3 English classes a year as well as working with personal pitching coaches to become the Marlins 1st round pick out of HS in '10Saints, LSU, Seminoles, Pelicans, Marlins, LightningComment

And yeah, he was consistent alright. Consistently atrocious. Consistently blind. Consistently SMFH-worthy. Consistently "what in the living **** are you looking at?"
Consistent.Comment

Re: MLB Off-Topic 2013
Here's a baseball fact that I didn't know about but learned on the radio the other day when a radio roundtable here was discussing the Phoenix Coyotes and how the NHL was owning the team etc etc. They were trying to come up with other situations where that's happened. Well, apparently Bill Veeck was all set to buy the Philadelphia Phillies in 1941 and was going to stock the team full of Negro League all stars but MLB got wind of this and quietly owned the Phillies for a few years because they didn't want the color barrier broken.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club
