Well, apparently Bill Veeck was all set to buy the Philadelphia Phillies in 1941 and was going to stock the team full of Negro League all stars but MLB got wind of this and quietly owned the Phillies for a few years because they didn't want the color barrier broken.
Imagine how that would've affected history. I wonder if MLB did that for safety concerns

Probably a little bit of that and a lot of racism.

              Re: MLB Off-Topic 2013

So I've been wondering this for awhile and never really found anything on the internet explaining how they do it.

I was at a NASCAR race a couple months ago and I turned on the Fox Sports Radio broadcast on my scanner. Larry Mac was calling the race with someone else. Except he also does TV at the same time with two different guys for Fox.

Well, Vin Scully does the same for the first 3 innings, but he's alone. It is just simulcast and he calls TV like he would radio. Well last night, I knew I had heard this before, but I listened to the Giants/Dodgers game on radio. I hear Duane Kuiper calling the game on radio like in the 7th/8th inning or so. But he does TV with Krukow, the whole game every time I've listened.

How the hell do these guys do radio and TV simultaneously, often communicating with different commentary partners at the same time? How do they know what was said to have on-going analysis?

MLB's very best players take the field at the All-Star Game on Tuesday. But which of them is the Face of Baseball?

I'm GLAD there's no face of baseball. The last thing I want to ever see happen is baseball to NBA-ify.

....SMFH @ that video. How is that POSSIBLE.

I agree, baseball doesn't NEED a face of the game. I actually like what's going on right now with the cadre of young players that are emblematic of the new wave of talent and success in the league today. Guys like Harper, Trout, Puig, Harvey and guys who are a little older but are by no stretch of the imagination considered old in Davis, Longoria, Votto etc etc.

Promote the successful younger players and don't focus on any one guy and you have the ability to market the GAME as much as you market the stars per se.

Baseball has the perfect balance. Guys like Miggy and Davis are crushing it while Machado, Trout, Harper, and Fernandez are all in the all star game at 21 and younger
