This will be the hardest season Bobby Cox will have had to manage since 1991, turning the Braves from a worst-to-first team, Russ Ortiz has to be the ace of the staff, Mike Hampton has to regain his pre-Colorado form, and John Smoltz has to be healthy, they can not afford for him to miss more than a month of the season like he did last year, The Jones boys have to carry the offense, which is still going to suffer, or the Braves may end up having there first losing season since 1990.

It truly looks like Philly's division to lose.

Last year, before the season, on ESPN.com, they had season predictions for division winners. Out of 10 or so baseball writers, 1 picked the Braves to win the division. I doubt any will pick them to win it this year, which is probably how they like it. Losing all the veterans may be a blessing in disguise as the Braves get to use their great farm system.Founder/President of the OS Rams ClubComment

Re: NL East
If there's one lesson that everyone needs to remember over the last 12 yrs. "never count the Braves out".
Now having said that I think the Phils will probably win the division with the Marlins hanging on for half of the season or so and the Expos being around the pennant race for 3 quarters of the season. In the end the Phils will win out because they've bolstered that bullpen.
BTW is the new ballpark a hitter or pitcher friendly park? What are the dimensions if anyone knows? That could play a part in how the Phils do. Some teams don't play so hot in the first year of a new stadium. Just ask the Astros and Reds.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club
