You're right you can't count out the Marlins.
Marlins did lose Lee, Pudge, and Redman...all were major parts of the team's success last year.
They've got a lot of faith in Tejera and I'm not sure Dontrelle will be as effective this year. He slumped at the end of last season and into the playoffs. NL hitters have seen him more than once now and have adjusted to him, now he must adjust to them.

I totally agree. They lost a lot of their offensive production in Pudge, Lee and Encarnacion. Their main questions on offense will be what Cabrera can do over the course of a full season and if Hee Seop Choi is going to hit or not. They signed Wil Cordero in case Choi can't handle it, but both are a huge step down from Derrek Lee, imo.

If they get AJ Burnett back healthy and in control of his stuff, that will be huge for their rotation, even if Dontrelle doesn't fool anyone this year. Beckett looked awesome in the postseason, but he was overworked imo and has yet to make it through a full season yet.

They definitely won't resemble the '98 Marlins, but I don't see them winning the division. Both of the times they won, they caught lightning in a bottle at the perfect time and rode a hot pitcher to the title. I just don't see them capturing the magic again this year.

Their starting pitching will make them dangerous for anyone and will keep them in it, but I say their lack of power from anyone but Lowell and possibly Cabrera will be their downfall.

Yo the METS may not scare anyone at all, I know this, But defence wins championships. We right know on paper have a pretty good defence, we will see how it looks on the feild when the season starts. Mike Pizza could hit 40hr's by moving to first, the buzz here in N.Y is that PIZZA is getting pretty excited to try a new postion. I just read that today in the paper. So laugh all you wan't but, all were laughing at the Marlins at the beginning of last year and who got the last laugh then.

About the Marlins though, imagine how good that rotation would have been had they kept Dempster and Clement. It would Burnett, Beckett, Penny, Dempster, and Clement. The D-Train would either be in the bullpen or back in the minors. I think Dontrelle will have a tough go of it this year. At the end of last year, after all the hitters had seen him once or twice before, they knew what to expect and had figured him out. The same should be true this year, he is not an ace type pitcher that you want to build a staff around, but he was a good fire starter last year getting em going in the middle of the year.

He was pretty good back when he was with the Marlins and Clement was no stiff either. They've had a lot of good young pitchers that they have given up for one reason or another.
