He was pretty good back when he was with the Marlins and Clement was no stiff either. They've had a lot of good young pitchers that they have given up for one reason or another.

the nl east is going to be an exciting division this year as is the nl central, i think all of the teams have shown improvement in the east. the mets are going to have a decent shot at the division if they dont get caught up in the injury bug or drugs or anything stupid. If they just go out and play baseball all season and dont mess around they will honestly have a decent shot at at least wild card.

You would think losing clememt, dempster, floyd, preston wilson, sheffield, alou, kevin brown, al leiter, livan hernandez, renteria, nenn, alfonseca, piazza, zeile, c.j., etc would hurt the Marlins... but its all seemed to work out for the best.

The Marlins have an amazing history. They've pretty much managed to fall into championships when nobody is paying attention.

As for me, I've got my Phillies Partial Season Tickets all ready!

We right know on paper have a pretty good defence, we will see how it looks on the feild when the season starts. Mike Pizza could hit 40hr's by moving to first, the buzz here in N.Y is that PIZZA is getting pretty excited to try a new postion. I just read that today in the paper. So laugh all you wan't but, all were laughing at the Marlins at the beginning of last year and who got the last laugh then.

Yeah, but the big difference is the Marlins actually had/have a good starting rotation. That alone will keep them in a ton of games. On top of that, every one of the Marlins' starters is young, and figure to keep getting better. You can't say the same about the Mets at all, except for possibly the Asian guy and possibly Heilman if he even makes the rotation. Their top 2 guys (Glavine and Leiter) are in the twilight of their careers, and while Leiter can still be somewhat effective, I really think Glavine is closed to being washed up. He has looked absolutely horrific since the 2nd half of 2002.

About the Marlins though, imagine how good that rotation would have been had they kept Dempster and Clement. It would Burnett, Beckett, Penny, Dempster, and Clement. The D-Train would either be in the bullpen or back in the minors. I think Dontrelle will have a tough go of it this year. At the end of last year, after all the hitters had seen him once or twice before, they knew what to expect and had figured him out. The same should be true this year, he is not an ace type pitcher that you want to build a staff around, but he was a good fire starter last year getting em going in the middle of the year.

                              <hr /></blockquote><font class="post">

I agree with Sully, Dempster sucks. He had one good season and one halfway decent one. Other than that, he has shown nothing at all.

As for Willis, I have to disagree with you. He definitely did falter a lot last year, but you gotta remember that the kid had never pitched that much in his life before. He simply got worn down as the season went on. Yes, hitters now know a little more about what to expect from him, but he will be a good pitcher, especially when his body can handle a whole season of work.

Their rotation would definitely be better with Clement still, but don't forget about Carl Pavano. We have been hearing how good he is for years, and last year he finally showed glimpses of it for once. If he can stay healthy, he will be one of the best #4-5 starters in the majors.

The guy that should scare every Marlin fan is Darren Oliver, who will be the 5th starter until Burnett comes back and pushes him out of the rotation. Oliver makes Dempster look like the second coming of Tom Seaver.
