Re: Cubs vs Astros
Yankees bullpen. Rivera, Flash Gordon, Quantrill, Felix Heredia, Gabe White, and Steve Karsay. I can't believe you cub fans didn't mention Kent Mercker who the Cubs picked up this offseason. He was great last year.Comment

Re: Cubs vs Astros
Here's the stats for the Cubs big 5 in the bullpen:
Mercker (L): 2003 Braves/Reds 55 IP / 46 H / 48 K / 32 BB / 1.90 ERA
Farnsworth (R): 2003 Cubs 76.1 IP / 52 H / 92 K / 36 BB / 3.30 ERA
Remlinger (L): 2003 Cubs 69 IP / 54 H / 83 K / 39 BB / 3.65 ERA
Hawkins (R): 2003 Twins 77.1 IP / 69 H / 75 K / 15 BB / 1.86 ERA (led AL in Holds)
Borowski (R): 2003 Cubs 68.1 IP / 53 H / 66 K / 19 BB / 2.63 ERA (33 saves)
I'd put that up against any five bullpen guys in the majors, and it's easily better than the Astros' best five. Especially considering Remlinger had kind of a down year last year.Comment

Re: Cubs vs Astros
I liked what Borowski did last year however, you have to wonder if he can do it again. I have a suspicion that he had one good year. Ive alwasy hoped that one day that Farnsworth might step into the closer role. I can see this being a problem for the Cubs and in situations where a closer isnt the same as the year before, the question becomes how loyal will Baker be to Borowski. Ask Grady Little how much it pays to be loyal in such a way.Comment
