    Re: Cubs vs Astros

In 2002, Borowski's ERA was better than last year.

That said, I don't think Baker's just gonna blindly stick to Borowski if he's blowing saves left and right. But Joe has the right mental makeup for a closer. Farnsworth does not.

I hope youre right about Baker. The thing about Farnsworth is that he throws 100mph.

Watching Farnsworth pitch is really exciting, but that's not always what you want.

Borowski regularly hits 94-95 on the gun, with pinpoint control. Plus he's a very smart pitcher - he knows what to throw when. And he doesn't get rattled. Ever.

i am curious to see if borowski will be able to do it again.. if he struggles early, will he lose the closers role?

LaTroy Hawkins would probably be the fall-back closer. But Borowski has earned the right to keep his job unless he pitches himself out of it. Hawkins has been stellar as a setup man, but he wasn't the best closer around when he was used in that role with the Twins.

Some people just have the right mental approach for the closer's role, and Borowski is one of those people. His stuff isn't electric, but it ain't bad. And he doesn't get too excited, he doesn't get too down. He doesn't overthrow or walk people or try to strike everyone out.

He just goes out there every day and pitches the 9th inning like it's the 5th inning. That's why people call him "Everyday Joe" or "Blue Collar Joe". He's not real exciting, but if you're leading in the 9th you don't want excitement.
