    @Blzer

    Watching the Ladies LLWS, girl was easily safe at 1B and beat the throw but was called out because she hit the "wrong" bag? Supposed to hit the orange bag and she touched the white bag.

    ...this is dumb, right? Am I missing something?

      As the spirit of the rule is intended to protect the safety of the players, I agree that in principle calling them out is stupid.

      However, as I understand the rule, the runner should only be engaging with the white portion of the bag upon advancing to first when turning the corner for second base or in a situation where a catcher/right fielder needs to throw to the first baseman outside of fair territory, in which case they can exchange colors.

      All that being said, like in baseball as well, if a runner passes a base and does not make contact with it, they are only to be declared out on appeal. So if she touched the white bag before the throw made it, the umpire should have called her safe. If there is a verbal appeal or tag on the runner before she safely retreats to the base, only then do I think she should be declared out.

      I hope that makes sense. I haven't seen the video though.

        Still seems like a bad call, even if following the letter.

          Perhaps it was. If you have a video of it, I'd love to see it.

          On an unrelated note, Barry Bonds was in the booth with the Giants announcers yesterday, and good lord does the man still look fantastic. I know we talk about guys like Tom Cruise never aging? This guy is 59 and doesn't look a day over 42, both in face and build.

          Sadly, he said he doesn't miss playing the game. Not that he hates the game or anything haha, but I'm still always hoping for that: "If they asked you to come back, would you?" thought in my head that has been creeping in since he last played in '07.

              To make it worse (for the Rays) they literally held a Franco hat giveaway the day of this stuff coming out. And to make it even worse than that....the giveaway was for kids 14 and under.

                He’s done. Apparently another allegation in the DR too.

                  I’m pretty sure it’s all the same situation; the original claim is from the DR. I don’t think, at least from what I’ve seen, there is a new accusation.

                      An 8th grader is pretty bad. If this stuff is true then he’s done with baseball.

                        If he's done, can Rays void his deal or is it like Bauer where he's done but still gets his money.

                            I'm not going to speculate, but the first accuser does not seem credible from what I've seen.

                              I think he’d need to get a suspension or jail time for Tampa to not have to pay him, although Passan said in a tweet the other day that you usually don’t get paid when you’re on the restricted list that Tampa placed him on

                                Let's say he's just in jail for X months, or even just a few years, I wonder if that voids his whole deal or just the time he's gone.

                                Or would he be on the restricted list for good (or could the league ban him if he does get convicted/jailed)?
