    Re: MLB Off-Topic

Anybody else think any amateur should go thru the MLB draft?

I don't understand why international FAs or guys in Cuba/DR don't go thru the draft like they would be required in the NBA or NFL.

I think that would further push toward parody in the sport.

It's hard though...especially when I got my neighbor playing their franchise across the street...maybe I will occupy myself with Glamore Magazine.

They aren't amateur's, maybe you mean a different word but I can't remember any time a true amateur from a different country was in the NFL draft either. Don't follow the NBA so can't comment.

NHL rules is a diff setup since you have leagues in numerous countries. North American players are in draft if they're 18-20 years old. And European players are in draft if they've never been in NHL before, regardless of their age.

Only real issue is the Russian league(KHL) where players can seemingly go back and forth, but even then NHL seems to be trying to cut down on that too.

Though college players in USA can also sign with teams as a regular free agent, but again, they have to be over the age of 20 to do so. I think maybe MLB should at least have an age limit. Like all players under age of 25 or something need to go through draft, regardless which country they're from?

To be fair...how many countries outside of USA really play a high level of "american football"? Canada is 2nd best in the world at it,and even their best players can barely crack NFL lineups.

That was my point. There aren't many professional football leagues elsewhere which is why what happens in baseball doesn't happen in football.

In baseball, these players that come here as free agents are free agents because they are already professionals. Not amateurs...

The big names, yes. But the MLB camps down in the Dominican, etc., sign a lot of 16-18 year olds that are not professionals. That's the point of the talk about a possible International Draft as far as I understand it.

This is making me wonder what it would be like if foreign NBA prospects arrived as FAs instead of going through the draft. Sometimes the 2nd round gets ridiculous to the point where it seems like teams are just inventing names of guys they're drafting. But as far as legit foreign prospects go, would Yao have immediately gotten the max? This year we have Porzingis, Mudiay, and Hezonja, it's kinda crazy how the system works out that they have to go through the draft in NBA but in the MLB system they'd all by FAs and would cash the hell in instead of getting draft slot contracts

Money. It all comes down to money.

Money for the agents of these players. Money for the buscones in the countries. Money for the families whose children get signed.

Those three determine so much and won't approve a draft of their players.

And MLB won't touch it because they risk having buscones keep their amateurs out of the draft.

That's not including the MLB teams who benefit from signing amateurs and keeping them locked into their system by dropping pennies compared to what amateur draft picks make.

Yes, there are exceptions that can make millions but most of these kids get paid 100,000 and that's it. It's more money they and their families have seen.

The thing runs deep. Don't bet on it changing.

lol, 60M ASG votes have been cancelled by the MLB.

Will be interesting to see the ballot numbers with all the cancelled votes.

Cause the issue isn't so much that Royals fans are turning out in huge numbers to vote for their players. It's the fact that the same people are signing up for numerous email accounts to constantly keep on voting for players. Seems like MLB was able to weed out all the bogus ones, which seems like 60M votes. Must be easy when emails were probably things like "[email protected], [email protected],[email protected]" and stuff lol.

Good. The idea that infante was getting more votes then kipnis is ridiculous. He was batting what .200?

Those 60mil votes are still just 20%. The same amount that was thrown out last year.

I've said all along, MLB will "fix" the voting. There will be a huge influx of voting for the rightful players towards the end of the period.

Good. Here's hoping the updated results include some semblance of reality.

Got an email saying I voted the max 25 times and I can vote up to 10 more times....though when I originally voted(more than 24hrs before they sent me the email),it let me vote the 35 times to begin with....does that mean they got rid of 10 of my votes or something?

I got the same weird emails. I voted all Royals, so I wonder if they red flagged me. Lame.

Did someone hack the voting or something...cause I've been receiving emails every couple of hours regarding the exact same thing about the voting.

And then I went to vote, and I was able to do so about 20 or so times, despite using the same email I had used last time. So maybe MLB actually cancelled out my votes or something lol.
