Reminds me of the Gretzkys joke/fact.

Hank and Tommie Aaron combined have 3987 Hits, 768HRs, 2391RBIs, and a .300AVG (between them both, if they had just 2 fewer hits, their combined AVG wouldn't be .300)

It turns out they also had Joe Torre and his older brother Frank (whose middle name was Joseph) as teammates for a year.

I wonder what the penalty is if a player is caught injecting the sticky stuff in place of traditional PEDs

probably not as stiff a penalty as using the sticky stuff as a substitute for the cream & the clear

2022 schedule is out. It looks like they’ll be using last year’s interleague matchups that never happened because of the COVID scheduling.

At least they got it right next year for the Giants, playing the Dodgers 14 times after the ASB and six times in September. This year they aren't playing them in August at all, and only have a three-game series at the beginning of September.

So... they'll start and end strongly, I guess?

                      Random rule I've always wondered.

Let's say you have 2 strikes on you, I know if you swing and the catcher doesn't catch it, you can run to 1B, but let's say something else happened.

You don't swing, but the ball goes in the dirt and/or goes far away from the catcher. Can you immediately swing and just run to 1B since you see the ball is too far for the catcher to get it and throw to 1B?

Yes. Still an o'fer as an at-bat though, and is probably not something you can recognize in a split-second's time. Plus, imagine how silly you'd look if you didn't make it or if the catcher snagged it anyway haha.

It's definitely one of those "1000 IQ" plays and a true sacrifice since it goes against your average, plus you really would only strategically do it if you felt your probability reaching base by hit, walk, or error are outweighed by your probability recognizing that moment and reaching base that other way.

We'll see it once some day in the MLB, but until then it's just something to talk about only haha.

                          Mike Trout turns 30 today.

For some reason it feels like he's only in his mid or late 20s for the most. 30 sounds old for him.

Well he is one of the most anonymous star athletes in recent memory, so it's not like we are exposed to him all the time. Often we have to be reminded of the fact that he exists lol.

Which is still crazy to think about. Sure, the team is Anaheim, but they're treated like/called an LA team. They might not be the Dodgers, but it's still the LA market. Despite that, you have a star player in a major market who if this was the NBA would probably be treated like a superstar playing in New Orleans or Sacramento.

yeah, it's definitely not because of where the Angels reside. Shohei doesn't have any problem getting the rockstar treatment. I haven't seen a player as vanilla as Trout since Pete Sampras retired. Trout would be a bigger presence on the Weather Channel than in baseball. he could be the Millville Meteorologist instead of the Millville Meteor lol
