Awful about Hamilton, but it reminds me more of Phil Hartman than Steve McNair.

That's probably a more apt comparison than the one I made. By all accounts Hamilton was a stand up family man.

Also read that he recorded the first ever hit in interleague play when he was with the Giants.

The only way I'd ever put him in the HOF even before this news is to wait until he dies. Also, he shouldn't be told so he doesn't die knowing.

On every MLB team locker room there is a plaque with this inscription:

"Any player, umpire, or club or league official or employee, who shall bet any sum whatsoever upon any baseball game in connection with which the bettor has a duty to perform shall be declared permanently ineligible."

They could add an extra line that would read:

          "Remember Pete Rose".

            Re: MLB Off-Topic

The way I see it is being allowed in to the HOF is just a formality for a player like Rose. We all know what Rose did on the diamond, and being in or out of the HOF won't erase the perception and fact that he bet on baseball. For baseball to stand their ground and not give the hits king a free pass because he was so good is probably a good thing. Rules are rules, and just because you're great doesn't mean you get to cut in line.

I think it matters very little whether he bet when he was playing or managing. If anything, being Pete Rose the ultimate ballplayer, we know he left it on the field as a player. As a manager, we don't know because there's no way to judge it. And we already knew he bet as a manager. This news shouldn't sway anyone, you either think he deserves it for being such a good baseball player or you stick to the rules and say he did this to himself.

So this news is only to finally close the book on Rose's chances.

He's still all over the Reds HOF and will be known forever and ever as an incredible ballplayer who committed the worst sin of the game. A cautionary tale.

With Pete Rose would people be ok with betting if he only bet for his team/himself instead of against it?

That's the thing that worries me about Rose. There's only evidence that he bet on his team to win but what if he got elected to the Hall of Fame and evidence came out he bet against his team on a couple of occasions? It's not like we can trust Rose's word that he never did that.

If evidence ever came to light that he did bet against his team, that would be far worse than taking steroids in my opinion.

Looks like Rose will have to live with being the all-time hits king, and a hall-of-fame level player to people who actually know their baseball history, and live without the mainstream respect and fame that comes with getting a spot in Cooperstown. He needs to move on and not let the HoF dominate his life anymore.

Are they gonna move the Rays or what? Either get a new stadium or move the team. Only 1 time all season have they had home attendance above 22,000(and that was their home opener). They're 1st in the AL East right now,and still are struggling to even get 40% filled stadium. I know the stadium itself sucks and location apparently isn't good, but if they aren't gonna get a new stadium,MLB really needs to consider moving them.

Though it's alot harder for MLB to move than NBA or NHL since there's no MLB ready stadium anywhere(Closest thing is the one in Montreal, but even that would just have to be temporary for a season or two)

Couldn't one argue that Rose is more famous for not being in the Hall?

How often are Hall of Famers brought up unless you're talking the top 5 or 10. But every time we talk HoF, Pete Rose comes up.

Yeah I think his star shines brighter for his lack of inclusion than if he was in and that was it.

That's an absolute shame about Daryl Hamilton. He was enjoyable to watch the couple times he was on MLB Central and I watched before I went to work.

In hypothetical land, if he bet against his own team and still has the most hits all time, that's pretty damn impressive, maybe he could've hit 5,000!

The team is more then likely going to move if they can not get a new stadium in Tampa. The city of St. Pete is playing hardball with letting the team out of the contract they have with the Trop which does not end until like 2022 or something like that.

The Trop is actually not a bad place to go see a game. Free parking, and a nice family friendly atmosphere with not one bad seat and cheap tickets. Its just most of the TB fanbase is in Tampa. Not St. Pete. With most games starting at 7 and ending around 10, you would have to leave by 3 or 4 because you are going to run into traffic going across the Howard Franklin or Skyway bridge. Then it would be around midnight when you make it home with work and school the next day.
